OPEN CALL. 📞

Plaɘground is calling for visual artists working across Cape Town’s underground: painting, illustration, graffiti, photography, mixed media, all welcome.

We’re looking for work that hasn’t been made for approval. Made because it had to exist, not because it’ll perform.

Selected artists will take part in Beneath the Surface, a group exhibition at District Studios on November 5th.

Submissions close Sunday, October 10th.

How to apply: link in bio for the questionnaire, submit examples of your selected work. by @tmssoundsystems

Hotboxed Turns 5 - 4th of July at Shackleton Brewery
🍰

As we edge closer, we want to take some time to recognize TMS Sound System & The Shackleton Brewery
@tmssoundsystems have put in an incredible amount of work bringing thier sound system dream to life, and we’re truly grateful to work together again.

Back in April, Shackleton Brewery opened its doors to launch the 2Sides2City’s series and what a journey it’s been since. This partnership is something we’re excited about and we can’t wait to see it grow.

Importantly, thank you to every artist preforming tomorrow. Thank you for your dedication to this craft!

After spending time on the dancefloor and behind the booth, you come to understand that the synergy between the DJ and a great sound system carry every frequency through the room.

In collaboration with TMS Sound System, we wanted to explore how sound and selector work hand in hand to shape a universal experience.

These press pictures show how the handcrafted rigs hold just as much beauty and importance as the artist standing beside them. Both are instruments in the same story, built for one thing, the love of music 🔊

Some experimental type and graphic assets for @tmssoundsystems

Built the visuals for TMS Sound as a straight nod to mid–late 90’s sound system flyer culture, when posters were loud, gritty and fully DIY. Pushing texture, distortion and hand-drawn elements.

The approach leaned into expressive typography, marking and layered analogue grit. Building visuals that feel as physical and pressure tested as the rigs themselves.

@tmssoundsystems is rooted in Cape Town’s growing sound system culture, a solid crew building custom stacks and delivering heavyweight, chest rattling sessions wherever they land. Proper selector energy. Carefully tuned frequencies. Full-body listening experiences 🔊 taken in Cape Town, Western Cape by @tmssoundsystems

An ode to the heartbeat of Mimosas: TMS Sound Systems🔊

From the dust rose two monstrous wooden beasts - hand-built, sun-baked, resonance-rich and unapologetically loud. Not speakers. Not boxes. But timber titans carved for communion.

These legends engineered the pulse of our camp last year - warm, woody, primal sound that wrapped the dancefloor like a dust storm sermon.

And the best part?

They’re coming back.

Same monsters. Same magic. Same dust-shaking devotion.

We’re excited to be closing the year off on Kurland with some truly out-of-the-box artists. We’ve taken a step back hoping to refine what we do in Plett. Our focus is still on the warmer, soulful side of house music but the party is much more intimate.

Tickets are a bit tricky. It’s a two step process. First you register through the reservation link. Once registered we will send you a promo code which you use to buy the actual ticket. Promo codes will start getting sent out today but are limited!

Happy to be working with TMS sound-system bringing our TML25 to life ❤️‍🔥

Rinse & Repeat for @firstthursdaysdownsouth @theshed_za was one for the books 🔒
Our washing sub made it’s big debut, and so we even made a mini zine to mark the moment → packed with hand-drawn bits, stories, a deep-dive spotlight on TMS Sound, their backstory and their journey with us at Plaɘ, and of course a big fat thank you to the community that’s been riding with us so far 🤍

Limited copies floating around… Drop a DM to snag one before they’re gone! 👀 by @tmssoundsystems
