We offer Peer Support and Suicide First Aid training, as well as a strong volunteer support programme and opportunities for collaboration.

To apply - please drop us an email at rosie@thenewnormalcharity.org with a bit about yourself and why you would like to host. by @tnncharity

"The Sondering bills itself as “a festival for mortals.” What exactly comes to mind when you hear about a three-day festival centred around death, dying and grief? Is it beautiful art? Incredible performances? Awesome music? Rituals, discussions, learning?

Turns out, it’s all of the above, with a healthy dose of community thrown in.

On September 18th, fellow host Stefan Thomson and I made our way to a beautiful farm in the Lake District where we represented The New Normal. Serving along with others as part of the festival’s wellness and support team, we offered participants the opportunity to take a break from the events if/when they wanted to. Some quiet time, a place to vent, sensory toys, a hot tea - whatever they needed.

Grief has a funny way of bubbling up when we least expect it. Maybe it knocks us sideways after a quiet meditation, or we’re thrown for a loop in the middle of the dancefloor. Sometimes all we need is an open ear and quick chat to feel balanced again, and it’s a testament to the care organisers put into the weekend that so much attention was given to offering this service.

Our team was based in a beautiful caravan just at the top of the site, but we also spent time wandering through the events, offering a quiet moment of conversation or even a hug to anyone who spotted our purple vests and wanted support. Between workshops, events, coffin weaving and even outdoor films, the wellness team was there throughout.

In a culture that doesn’t handle grief well, a festival like The Sondering provides opportunities for individuals to process and explore grief individually and collectively. With TNN’s ethos rooted in the strength of peer-to-peer support, this truly was a beautifully matched connection.

If you’re curious and feeling a little FOMO about not making it this year, don’t worry - they’re already making plans for next year. Mark your calendars for September 17th, 2027 and maybe I’ll see you there." Words and pics by Erin, TNN Volunteer by @tnncharity

big topic. big love. and a big bloody kettle.

grief is a natural and appropriate response to loss. the Sondering support team aren’t here to fix it.
but they can
- listen with compassion
- help with breathing
- practice regulating somatic exercises to help you reground
- make a mean brew
- offer comfort and hugs
- provide sensory packs
- just let you be

our amazing voluntary team have a wide range of experience; both personal and professional. they’ll be on hand to help you regroup if things get a bit wobbly.

they are incredible whole hearted humans. but they can’t
- absorb or carry your pain for you
- provide therapy or counselling
- provide mental health care

you’ll find the Sondering support team in this beautiful @wanderlustsgypsycaravans each day.

a huge thank you to every single one of these people with such generous spirits. may we also love and look after them, as well as each other and ourselves this weekend. taken in Rydal, Cumbria by @tnncharity

Today is Suicide Prevention Day.

At @tnnboystalk we believe in creating spaces to help men feel safe to open up, be vulnerable and share their experiences. From the big stuff to the not so big stuff.

Learning how to understand our feelings and then sharing them with others is the biggest part of changing the narrative around mental health. If we don’t tell people how we feel, how will they know?

There is a horrible stigma around the word suicide, a dangerous stigma that stops people from seeking help and support. As well as asking men to feel more comfortable opening up and sharing, we need to get more comfortable with asking the hard question…

“Are you thinking about suicide?”

If we don’t ask, how will we know?

At Boys Talk we believe being vulnerable is a strength and not a weakness. If you don’t know how, if you can’t find the words, join us for a meeting and let us teach you.

——

Boys Talk is a safe space and peer support meeting for anyone who identifies as a man to speak openly about their mental health and well-being, no matter the reason.

Please share with your friends, brothers, fathers, sons, colleagues, and boyfriends and let them know that it’s okay to talk.

If you’d like to join us in any of our meetings or find out more, send us a DM, and one of us will get back to you as soon as possible. @tnncharity is committed to creating safe spaces for diverse communities.

Have you heard about The Sondering - a festival for mortals? The New Normal will be there! Taking place 18–21 September 2026 in Rydal, it is a new not-for-profit 2.5-day camping festival blending contemporary arts, music, community, nature, and ritual to explore the universal topics of death, dying, and grief in creative, participatory ways. Some of our amazing volunteers will be part of the The Sondering Support Team, if you're there come say hi!

Supported by Arts Council England, The Sondering will bring just 300 curious souls together for a wildly human weekend of music, contemporary arts, nature, ritual, community, and death literacy. Set against the landscape of the lakeland fells, the event asks: can exploring death creatively, consciously, and communally help bring us closer to life and each other?

Rather than a sombre or clinical environment, The Sondering blends reverence with celebration. Attendees can experience everything from singing in Rydal Cave and clowning workshops to wild swimming, death meditation and willow coffin weaving. An eclectic musical lineup spans post-punk, dub, folk, techno, opera and more. Death literacy, and grief witnessing is woven throughout, with panel talks and practical workshops from leading practitioners, including eulogy writing, talks on end-of-life rights and realities, and creating a meaningful memorial ritual.
18+ . No one has to have died for you to come but if you have been bereaved, there you'll find understanding and compassion.

I met Elle in Bohee a couple of months ago when she offered to help curate the art we exhibit there. I knew with her experience from the Whitworth that she would be an asset to our work but I didn't realise how much. As we got talking she told me about her experience of loss and we started to make plans to support people going through the loss with art. Little did I know at the time the universe was offering me a little branch. Elle has been a force of nature and linked up with "the new normal" charity and we put together a plan for a project.

New monthly meetings at GRIT Manchester.

Art For Loss is a new in-person peer support meeting for bereaved adults, providing a space to talk freely while also tapping into artistic forms of expression.

Hosted by The New Normal at GRIT Studios in Deansgate, Manchester. The meetings will take place once a month on Sunday afternoons.

All meetings are inclusive and open to any adult who has been bereaved - no art experience is needed.

Reserve for FREE on eventbrite. For more information please contact @tnncharity by @tnncharity

Celebrating Pride Month means understanding and bringing into the open the nuances of the queer experience, in times of celebration and in times of grief and heartache.

We are very grateful to our LGBTQIA+ volunteers and participants and for them sharing their stories.

If you would like to support us to keep running our free inclusive peer support spaces, from Queer Good Grief to It’s Complicated, your donations this week will be *doubled* if you donate via the link in our bio, as part of The Big Give’s Small Charity Week.

In honour of Pride Month, and our Big Give Campaign, we are bringing attention to some of the members of our brilliant LGBTQIA+ community who both volunteer for TNN, and attend our meetings, including Queer Good Grief.

This testimonial is from Ezekiel, and the art above is something he created in one of our Connect, Reflect, Create sessions.

"I lost my friend Masha to suicide in february 2025. Masha was queer, and so am I, we knew each other from instagram. Masha was an artist, they created many wonderful things; and they were an incredibly soft human. After their death, i looked for a place where i could pour my grief, since i didn't know many of their friends. I found Good Grief, and i decided to go because there was a queer group. I think the groupe gave me the same feeling i used to only feel once a year, on the Trans Day of Remembrance, this deep understanding of what it means to be connected by a grief that is bigger than us. Through all their life, Masha suffered from many different types of societal violence, and it was such a relief to know that at least of these violences was understood by everyone in the groupe without having to over-explain it.

This pride month feels bitter to me, as the french goverment is attacking more and more our rights while instrumenting our identities, it doesn't feel like there is much to be proud of, and still a lot to fight for. But I'm forever grateful that i have the Good Grief group as a space to sit with my feelings, without being deminished or misunderstood, and to hear about the stories of other queer people that resonate with mine. The sense of community everyone on Good Grief brought me is one of the most precious things i've ever felt."

If you’d like to support us this Pride Month, all donations will be *doubled* when you pay via the Big Give. The link is in our link tree in the bio and here: https://donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05WS00000ChcvxYAB
