After speaking at the No Kings rally in Franklin, I made it back to Murfreesboro just in time to catch the end of the Behind Closed Doors: From Fear to Freedom Brunch.

I’m grateful I could make it. 💜

As a survivor of domestic violence, this work is deeply personal. I know survivors. I support survivors. And I know how much it matters to have a community that believes you and stands beside you.

Running with an ad from what you said you would do 8 years ago in your campaign is a little wild to me, but I digress…

🔴 Define your terms. Which specific policy are you referencing?

“Taking on the radical Socialist left.”
🔴 Name-calling does not support your thesis.

“Stopping … illegal immigrant handouts.”
🔴 Loaded language. Identify the program, eligibility requirements, and actual benefit.

“Casting the deciding vote.”
🔴 Show your work. Include the bill number, date, and vote count.

“Improving Tennessee’s schools.”
🔴 Supporting evidence needed. What improved? Include funding, staffing, or student outcomes.

“Fighting against the woke socialist agenda.”

Nobody prepares you for how weird it is to drive down the street and see YOUR OWN FACE in somebody’s yard.

Then it hits you: someone put that sign there because they believe in you. They’re trusting you to show up, speak up, and represent them. That part will never get old. 💙

And this year, as America marks its 250th anniversary, I walked into a voting booth and voted for myself—a Black woman running for State Senate in a state with a Republican supermajority.

I thought about the women before me who fought for the right to vote, let alone have their names printed on a ballot.

Now mine is there.
And on your lawns.

What an honor.
What a responsibility.

Mark Pody has taken over $81,000 from PACs tied to for-profit prisons, predatory lenders, real estate developers, and the healthcare industry. Those are the same folks who profit when your rent goes up, when farmland turns into another subdivision, when your doctor’s bill makes you gasp, and when a payday loan becomes a trap.
