Thanks to the support of our Toadfish community, we’ve donated 6 @livewatersports paddleboards from @sup.customs to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources! These boards will directly support SCDNR’s Spartina grass restoration efforts in our coastal tidal creeks. Spartina alterniflora (smooth cordgrass) is a foundational species in our local salt marsh ecosystems. Planting it helps stabilize shorelines, reduce erosion, and restore vital habitats for native wildlife, including fiddler crabs, ribbed mussels, a variety of wading birds and shorebirds, and so much more. This collaboration is a testament to what’s possible when conservation, innovation, and community come together - let’s continue to protect and preserve these ecosystems for generations to come!#putemback #scdnr #conservation #spartinagrass #marshrestoration #community by @toadfish_coalition

Marsh Madness is still chugging along 🌊🦪The final step in our oyster recycling program is putting these MWRs back where they belong, into the water along our shorelines. Once placed, they create the perfect structure for new oysters to attach, grow, and thrive.What starts as recycled shells quickly turns into living reefs. Over time, these reefs become powerful ecosystems that provide habitat for fish, crabs, and other marine life, while also helping stabilize shorelines and reduce erosion.Even more impressive? A single oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day. That means as these reefs grow, they actively improve water quality, making our coastal environments cleaner and healthier.Oyster recycling is not just about reusing shells, it is about rebuilding habitats, protecting our coastlines, and giving our waterways a second life.From plate ➡️ to reef. The next step in the oyster recycling process is building Manufactured Wire Reefs (MWRs). The SCDNR SCORE program and volunteers come together to construct these reef structures using reclaimed oyster shells.Once deployed along shorelines, MWRs help reduce erosion while creating the ideal surface for oyster spat to settle and grow into thriving clusters.It’s a simple system with a big impact, restoring habitats, protecting coastlines, and giving oysters a strong start where they need it most. by @toadfish_coalition

On today’s episode of Marsh Madness 🦪🌾 we’re continuing the lifecycle of an oyster! After shells are collected from restaurants and drop-off centers, they’re taken to a quarantine site where they stay for 6 months. During that time, the SCDNR SCORE program, Charleston Waterkeeper, and amazing volunteers sort through the shells and remove any trash to get them ready for the next phase: building manufactured wire reefs.Stay tuned… and enjoy these bloopers while we pick out some trash. ♻️ by @toadfish_coalition
