Today’s B&N haul!

-Blood of the Chosen is the sequel to Ashes of the Sun and the second in the Burningblade and Silvereye series. Can’t wait to read!!!

-The Silverblood Promise is the first in the series and its been on my TBR for bit so I’m excited that I finally grabbed it!

-The Teller of Small Fortunes has also been on my TBR and I knew I would need some short and (hopefully) cozy-ish so I’ll probably it in between the other two!

If anyone has read these I would love to know your thoughts!!!

-What can I say about this absolutely magical magnificent book? The cover ALONE pulled me in, the plot had me bouncing in glee and the story truly changed my life. What started off with my friend and I looking for a book to read together ended with me reading one of the most beautiful stories ever that had me crying with grief and joy for a majority of it. While others may question my rating, it’s a full 5/5 10/10 for me simply because of how it made me feel.

TSATSM is about how the Sun fell in love with a human and loved him so much that she gave her power to him to save his town. He’s able to bring her sunlight across since a Great Quake caused it to sink so far below that her light couldn’t reach them. This tradition goes on for centuries and the story centers around Aurora and the Starmaker.

This is such a fairy tale story with magic, wonderful characters, intricate storytelling, and such a poetic way with words that left me clutching my chest in awe bc it made me feel so much. The way Rachel writes yearning, grief, longing, love, and loss is genuinely so beautiful and enchanting. I found myself on and off crying from halfway (when Aurora has a realization about the Starmaker) of the story all the way to the end. I adored Aurora, Starmaker and Tilly so much.

As one who went through a few grievances this year, this story resonated with me in an unexpected way and I’m so so glad I picked it up.

Would I rec this book? Yes. And I cannot stress that enough. If you love fairy tales, magic, romance, yearning, star crossed lovers then please pick up this book. The ending left me wanting more of our MCs but I cannot deny that the end was so beautifully done and satisfactory. I genuinely cannot put into enough words how much I loved this book.

-First of all, for a good half of the book all the female characters name end/sound with an A haha.

Ho.ly fuck.ing. Shit. This was one of the first books in a while that I could not stop thinking about when I wasn’t reading. In the beginning I was more interested in Gyre’s side but then it switched to Maya, back to Gyre, Maya. Back and forth until I couldn’t wait to read BOTH perspectives and what was going to happen next

There’s magic, monsters, complex characters, a heart wrenching story that has your heart tugging in both directions bc you’re not sure what side to root for (even tho you DO).

I loved Gyre, Tanax and Beq. They were my favs throughout the book and I cannot wait to see more of them.

My one note is that I didn’t really care for Kit despite her being a major character. Some of her characteristics I didn’t vibe with like being careless with others and also her being very sexual. I did ask myself if I would feel the same if Kit was a male and the answer is yes lol. Granted, I understand why her character is like that given her backstory but still

Besides that I really enjoyed both worlds, it very much reminded me of Arcane with Piltover and Zaun!

Would I rec this book? HELL FUCKING YES! YES!! Dystopian magic society??? Yes!!!!

Anyway yeah I didn’t like how Kit kept instigating sex with Gyre. I get why! But!

- What an absolute fun read lmao. Read this in a day and had a blast. The main characters were so fun, I loved the banter, the chemistry, the relationships with one another and the plot.

The only notes I have are that the ending left some questions unanswered and SPOILERS!!!!

She doesn’t boink him in merman form :/ -5 points. The closest they get is that he does things to her with his tail in the jacuzzi.

Would I rec this book? YEAH! It’s fun, short, entertaining and who doesn’t love a Jersey merman?

- Immediately ran to take my pics and come do this post bc hello was not expecting THAT ending. In the beginning I was interested in the story like ooo lore and world building and then when a certain part happened, I sat up and got HOOKED

And that’s how it was for a good chunk of the book. I liked Brynn and Acker, Messer was fun too. the ‘boat scenes’ take place from ch 16-24 which might seem like alot but the chaps are short and there’s time lapses so lol

And then I reached a CERTAIN POINT that made me go oh :/ was not in favor of that but IT’S FINE

As always I did enjoy it more when the enemies were enemies bc YEARNING! And then they got together and I ended up liking them less lmao

But I thought the pacing was pretty good, the characters are interesting, and the magic system although a little confusing was pretty cool too! It just kind of threw me off bc it’s elemental but then there are shapeshifters and trolls?

Would I rec this book? Mmm tentative yes. It did take me by surprise and the plot is super interesting as well

Okay the part that I locked tf in was when Acker told Brynn the dagger was hers. Literally had a Scooby doo moment

The scene when they’re in the boat and see the stars perfectly in the sky and on the seas surface? Beautiful, loved that

BLUE WAS MESSER

DIDNT like: Acker revealing that he’s betrothed bc wat da hell boo why didn’t you say anything my guy. That’s no way to get someone to trust you. AND THEN NOT TELLING HER THAT SAID BETROTHED IS IN YOUR COURT???? Goodbye

Also thought Jovie would’ve had more of a reaction when they come across Samasu and he tells them her mom is sending for her but now that I finished reading I guess I understand why she didn’t really react

Now here’s what I really wanna talk about: THE ENDING COMPLETELY CAUGHT ME OFF GUARD. She was deceiving Acker the whole time????

I’m genuinely unsure if I liked the plot twist or not bc again, it’s totally out of left field and is meant to be this big AHA moment but it felt so off. Maybe povs from Acker wouldve helped

-I bought this book bc I thought it was fiction and little did I know! It’s the story about the discovery of Stellers sea cow and their impact throughout history.

I took a while to read this not bc it was boring but bc the author had to set up the characters, the plot and everything else. So it does take a bit for the actual discovery to happen.

The story goes over 3 arcs with 3 different sets of people in different eras and how they interact with the sea cow, whether it’s with it physically, through stories or bones, or sketching diagrams.

It’s very informative and heartbreaking bc as we all know, manatees are a type of sea cow and endangered species and upon reading this book, you find out that Stellers sea cow went EXTINCT less than 30 years after its discovery which is utterly devastating.

The author does put a note at the end that despite all their research there are some things that were unknown so they did their best to fill in the blanks.

Would I rec this book? Yes! If you want a short informative read on sea cows and how man, once again, ruins everything then this is for you!

-Yeah this book took me a hot minute to finish. Mainly because I was not vibing with the writing style. At times it was kinda confusing as to what was going on and felt like there were two narrators instead of one.

What I enjoyed the most were the characters of Fox, Death and Cal. I loved their relationships with one another and truly would have liked to see more of them.

The plot itself is super interesting but wasn’t executed well. When it finally got to the Big Thing, it was over before I blinked.

Would I rec this book? Mmm with a hand wiggle! The characters are super sassy towards one another and care a great deal but refuse to admit it so if that’s your thing then! Also we love Papa Death

-Another book I borrowed bc I wanted to understand the hype. And I do!! What a cool premise bc who doesn’t like dragons and bonding and a battle royal? It also helped that I immediately pictured Xaden as Theo James 🤪

This was one of the rare stories where I fr did not care for the romance lmaooo, I was way more invested in everything else. I totally get the hype surrounding the book but personally I wasn’t as interested

I also feel like the dialogue was very modern? If that makes sense. And everyone talks about getting laid a lot lol. They say terms like hooking up, fucking hot etc etc so it would take me out of the scene.

Would I rec this book? Sure! The premise with dragons is really cool and there’s really good descs on how everything works. I probably won’t be reading the next installments but I did search up certain things so I’m not totally left in the dark lol

When Violet gets TWO dragons bonded to her and they explain the whole ‘if u die, he dies, she dies, I die’ thing. So it’s a forced proximity enemies to lovers thing. SHOOK!

And speaking of enemies to lovers: I felt like they weren’t really enemies? I understand why Xaden hates Violet at first but Violet upon first seeing him is “good god i want to fuck him” like damn girl okay!!!! Mood but!!!!!!

Also Xaden had me fucked up bc how are you gonna keep boinking Violet but then tell her not to fall for you 🤨 BFFR!!!!

-I had SOOOOO much fun reading this. The chemistry between Josh and Aly, their banter, their ✨scenes✨ were so so good. Genuinely had me cracking up every now and then throughout the story

I feel like this book is appropriately hype. Some like it more than others but I personally enjoyed it a lot. Super fun, easy read, the smut was smutting 🙂‍↕️ esp with the 🔪 scene teehee

AND, imo, Josh isn’t even that bad. He’s just some guy who really loves his girl 💀 sure he stalks, hacks, invades privacy, hides some cameras but!!! It’s all in good fun 😀 and thank god Aly is into that shit lmao bc you know what? SHES JUST AS NUTTY AS HE IS LMAO

Would I rec this book? Hell yeah! Esp if you’re a fan of the stalking trope! Aly is a cool little spitfire and Josh is a fucking nerd

- The sequel (NO LONGER FINAL) to Heartless Hunter! I LOVEEEED THIS BOOK. LOOOVEEEED IT. THE YEARNING, THE HATING, THE WILL THEY WONT THEY, THE CHARACTERS, THE PLOT!!!!

I did feel that the second half/when they reached their mission to do the thing, it felt a little rushed?? Like maybe another chapter or so of preparing or more talking about it could’ve been useful!

Straight giggling and kicking my feet and twirling my hair when I read this. The ending took me by surprise and I remember standing up from my seat and yelling “WHAT??” Like enemies to lovers but ENDING as enemies???

Would I rec this book? Abso-fucking-lutely yes! It’s an easy read, the chapters are fairly short and the plot is easy to follow! The characters are great and this is one of the few stories I’ve read where the enemies to lovers are actually enemies and it’s not just one sided or vague suggestions of enemies. And book 2 only gets so much better!!!
