Egghorn and Silvrettahorn 🗻⛏️

2023 has been the first year for me without taking any photos since 2016. But I really enjoyed being in the mountains without a camera again.

I just edited those images from last year's alpine tour to Silvrettahorn and Silvretta Egghorn. A quite challenging tour over the melting glacier underneath Piz Buin. And crazy to see how steep the ice wall was, we climbed up (last image).

Chachani @6090m🌋

To climb Chachani, a volcano with over 6000m, definitely was one of the craziest things I have ever done and a big dream checked on my bucket list. To be honest, I never felt worse on a hike, but the 6h climb starting at 2am in our basecamp at around 5200m was no joke. My whole body fought me on our ascend through complete darkness and insane temperatures at around -15°C. A brutal headache, a sick stomach and the thin air, that made it hard to breathe and super exhausting, just to hike a mountain. Normally I would hike the 800m of elevation in around 2h, but at this height it took us 6h and everyone was super fit. After a fight of 5h 30min where I wasn't sure if I could make it, the last 30min were super easy, adrenaline kicked in and I just rushed up the mountain.
In the end we made it to the top, but unfortunately it was super cloudy and we couldn't see anything...

El Volcán Villarrica con nieve🌋❄️

With the national park closed in May, it was kind of risky to try hike the Villarrica-Traverse. It's a wonderful 3 day hike around multiple volcanoes and through old lava fields, but with around 20cm of frozen snow it's no joke. I had a perfect weather window, but without crampons and lots of steep icy crossings like in the last picture, it really is super challenging and dangerous, especially if you hike alone and there is literally no signal on the whole trek. In addition, navigation was quite challenging, the trek was not super well taken care of and you had to fight through nasty bushes scratching your body, but such a joy to be alone in beautiful nature for 3 days and in the end everything went well.

Misty Las Torres covered in Snow🏞️

On a hike packed with highlights, las Torres, which I climbed on the second last day, was definitely my highlight of the W-Trek in Patagonia, Chile.
Due to low clouds the 3 towers are not seen very often in autumn. After having rain and almost no visibility on day 3, I left camp super early on day 4 and because of beautiful conditions I increased the pace to make Las Torres without clouds. After over 22km and 1000m of elevation in 4hours, I made it to the top to take this photo. Less than 10min later, after I sat down to write diary and have a snack, the 3 towers were fully covered in clouds. Lucky me...

Blue Ice of Glaciar Grey 🧊

One of my first stops on my travels in Chile was the beautiful national park Torres del Paine. One of the worlds most famous hikes ist the W-Trek, which I hiked by myself. On the first day we went to Glacier Grey, an immense glacier and so intense colors...😍
In end of April I enjoyed beautiful, but very cold and rainy/snowy, fall days and only had to share the trek with a few other people, due to the season ending in May.
So beautiful and just such a nice experience to hike 5 days in such beautiful nature and to sleep/freeze in my tiny tent.

Sunrise Views in Uyuni 🌅

On the final day of our 3 day Jeep tour from San Pedro the Atacama, Chile to Uyuni, Bolivia we watched the breathtaking sunrise in the salt flats of Uyuni. After we got up around 4am, we left by Jeep to freeze our asses off in the desert. At over 4000m of altitude it was super cold, but also super beautiful.

Milkyway in Atacama Desert 🌌

A wonderful panorama, that documents the most remarkable milkyway I have ever seen.
The Atacama desert offers perfect conditions to see and photograph the milkyway: a desert with no light pollution at all, 4500m of altitude and dry air. Those conditions result in photos that put everything I photographed up to now in shade.
I can only recommend to go on a tour into the desert by Jeep, if you are in the area!
