4 x 252.5kg. BB SLDL's.

There is a battle that goes on in your mind, every, single, day.

Your mind has to be strongeer than your feelings.

You have to deal with that advertising and how are you going to deal with it. Are you going to fight those mental battles or are you going to crawl up into a corner and let it consume you.

Today, and majority of the past 5 months has bwen thia battle for me. Operating and functioning but qehat sometimes feels like a fraction of what you know you're capable of.

But milestones and achievements wait for nobody. Its about the grind, it's about the obstacles, its about the challenges and the physical and mental pain you endure along the way.

But without the pain, without the obstacles, you will never truely know what the win is and how good it can feel.

When the road ahead feels dark & you can't see where the next step is going to take you, you have to find a way to keep moving.

Not because it's easy. Not because you feel ready. But because standing still isn't going to get you where you want to be.

That's the fight both inside & outside. Finding a way to focus on what's in front of you, put one foot in front of the other & keep building, even when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Today, that meant 4 x 252.5kg. Was it easy, absolutely not. I had to go searching, especially meentally.

But it was found!!

2.5kg up from last week, with bodyweight continuing to come down throughout this Mini-Cut.

The conditions aren't getting any easier, but we're still heree for the fight!!

One session at a time. One rep at a time.

🎉 15th of May marks 5 Years of being alcohol free.

On the 15th of May 2021, I stopped drinking alcohol.

Not because I was a massive drinker, but because when I decided to take bodybuilding and my goals more seriously, it was one of the first things that had to go.

The biggest reason though was what alcohol brought out in me mentally.

For most people, drinking is associated with fun, good times and socialising and although i have had plenty of good times on the beers, for me, there was a side of it that alot of people didn't see.

Alcohol felt like I became someone I wasn’t. Like I was pretending to enjoy things, be involved in things and act in ways that didn’t align with who I actually was and therefore literally hate.

Tthe crash the next days were horrible.

Anxiety. Depressive thoughts. Overthinking everything I said, did or was involved in. Spiralling down rabbit holes for days or even weeks afterwards.

Some of the “best nights” drinking also became some of the most embarrassing, horrible moments of my life and the negatives never outweighed the positives for me.

Since stopping alcohol, I’ve only seen benefits.

📈 Significant improvements in my Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
🧠 Better mental clarity and thoughts of myself
🏋️ Better training performance and physique progression
⚡ Better energy and routine
💭 No longer caring what people think of me or stressing about what I may have said or done

Although i don't think poorly or care if others drink, I find it funny how normalised drinking has become in today’s culture, yet things like

🍊 Eating quality foods,
🏋‍♂️ Supplementing and Training hard,
📈 Chasing physique goals and h
🧠 Having high-level ambitions
Is often seen as “unhealthy” or obsessive because it sits outside what most people consider normal.

For me, removing alcohol was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Im not making this post for a pat on the back or tell people drinking alcohol is wrong. It is your life and you do you, but these are benefits i've seen from not drinking and why i stopped and will not go back.

People can accept you for who you are or move on.

4 x 277.5kg.

The start of a new rep progression block.

This is the best this lift has felt in weeks. Each rep felt controlled, tight, driving through the floor & staying in owning the load from start to finish.

Standing at the lock out on rep 4 & genuinely contemplating a 5th before putting the weight down, knowing that rep is there was great. Knowing there's more to give. That's a fucking good feeling.

Given i'm 4 weeks into this Mini-Cut & the last time i moved this load i was 5 kg heavier makes me even more excited. I say all that knowing that with my bodyweight coming down & the conditions getting progressively harder, i will have to fight to continue this progression. Good thing i'm here for it, right @tom_haviland

I'm not here to get comfortable with where I'm at. I'm here to keep pushing, keep finding those small improvements & see how far I can take this lift under these conditions.

@michael_toomer, @kaidin_hart & @__erictsmith you're up!!

7 x 220kg. Got the rep that was there from last week.

Some days, you walk into the gym feeling ready to tear the place apart. Other days, you're operating on what feels like 30% mentally & have to dig a whole lot deeper just to get yourself moving.

Today was the latter.

But regardless of what's going on internally, you still have a job to do. Find a way to get your head in the right place, focus on the set in front of you & make the most of what you've got that day.

Last week, I hit 6. Today, I got 7.

Same load. One more rep. Another step towards the target of 12 before increasing the weight.

The reps were smooth, the execution was there & but this set wouldn't have been what it was without @osc_miguel there!! Both for that push and mental reassurance!!

220kg → 12 reps → Increase the load.

You don't always need to feel your best to make progress. Sometimes, the win is finding a way to do the work when everything internally is telling you otherwise.

Legs done. ✔️

132.5KG x 5

One more rep than last week. Another step forward during this Mini-Cut.

Progression isn't always about what happens under the bar.

Sometimes it's about learning to slow things down, block out the noise & focus on what's directly in front of you.

Life doesn't always go to plan. There will always be things outside of your control, but you can control how you respond, the work you put in & the direction you choose to move in.

Keep showing up. Keep moving forward. Find your own peace in the process.

WHAT I EAT IN A DAY DURING MY MINICUT 🍽️

3800 CALORIES | 285G PROTEIN | 545G CARBS | 45G FAT

Meal 1 - Calories 1065, P:45g, C: 196g, F: 6g
Meal 2 - Calories 851, P: 54g, C: 145g, F: 4g
Meal 3 - Calories 708, P: 65g, C: 59g, F: 26g
Meal 4 - Calories 1176, P: 120g, C:140g, F: 9g

2.5 weeks into this phase & things are progressing quickly.

Protein stays high, carbs fuel the work & fats are kept to the minimum required.

When i start a minicut phase, i preach that it is so important to set a deadline. This gives you a clear amount of time to get from A to B, short enough time to not allow fatigue to be build up, but long enough to get the desired result and lastly, a goal post setting.

Set a deadline. Have a plan. Execute.

Too often, people drag these phases out to make them easier. In reality, a slower approach can leave more room for complacency, special occasions & drawn-out mental fatigue.

I prefer a defined timeframe with a clear start & finish. Enough time to achieve the desired result without unnecessarily prolonging the process.

Get in, do the work, get out.

Anyone can endure a tough 10 weeks when they know there's an end date.

Execute the plan & let the results follow.

400kg x 11.

Not every day is easy. Not every session starts with the right mindset. Sometimes, just turning up and getting yourself into the right headspace is a battle in itself let alone the other things playing on your mind.

Because the real fights don't just happen in the gym. There's plenty going on outside these four walls that nobody sees, things you still have to deal with long after the last set is done.

But you still have to find a way forward.

Some days, progress comes from pushing harder. Other days, it's about blocking out the noise, focusing on what's directly in front of you & getting the job done, one rep at a time.

Not every battle is won in a day. Sometimes, it's just about refusing to let a difficult day become a wasted one.

Control what you can. Focus on the next rep. Keep moving forward.

5 x 142.5kg. One rep up from last week.

Some lifts progress faster than others. The key is knowing how to measure that progress.

Last week, there was no chance of a 5th rep. Today, it was there with a little assistance from @brettboucherfitness.

That’s progress and to me i'm still happy with that and still believe 6 X 150kg by the end of the year is there for the taking!!

Next week, we go after 5 clean reps.

One session at a time. Keep building.

6 x 275kg.

Same load. One more rep in the bank.

Mini-Cut or not, we're moving forward.

Never fall into the trap of negotiating your feeling and emotions with yourself. Momentum is cruel mistress, it can turn on a dime in a heartbeat.

It is forever seeking for that weakspot in your armour, that one thing you didn't prepare for. Those legions of voices will start shouting their unanimous decision to take it easy thats when the grind begins.

When these voices start panning out several different streams of weasier opportunities infront of you, each one promising the path of least resistance, you need to turn around and say, fuck you, i'm heading up stream!!

I've got another 7 exposures to this lift throughout the Mini-Cut. That's 7 more times i get to stair this lift down and progress one more rep, slightly more load, whatever progression is there to be had, I'm going after it.

Top Set: 6 x 275kg
Back-Off: 7 x 265kg

@tom_haviland and @michael_toomer, we're one rep up. Over to you guys!! 🫡

Seven more.

Let's fucking work.

Conditioning. In my opinion, still in that shit spot where you are nowhere near as full but still holding pretty much the same amount of fat. However in saying that, i'm happy with this weeks progress which is notable. I know the first two weeks of Mini-Cuts are the tough ones from a mental standpoint so i am anticipating a better look next week.

Recovery. This has been great. The best part about being so active with a high output throughout the off-season is it makes cardio and output in this phase feel like a breeze. Don't bee acared of cardio or liaten to coaches who want to preach that its not necessary.
