Along the shadowy canyon, Artoo falls victim to an ambush.

“Motion Blur” is the Collababunga group’s theme for April. I opted to render the scene in Star Wars: A New Hope when R2D2 falls forward, shut down from the jawa’s laser blast.

Instead of using an SLR for a long exposure, I used my iPhone’s camera in “Live” mode. I determined the best rendering of his fall was to move him in a reverse fall. For photos that had R2 flat on the ground, there wasn’t enough effective body blur. I felt a photo with him still in mid-drop looked the best — AND added dramatic tension for the viewer.
