It was the hottest night of the year, in a 120 year old church with no air conditioning, the rustling of the fans and the chorus of cicadas filled the spaces between the 200 or so people sitting together in community. A shared experience built around a love for stories and songs, melodies created and witness to the always evolving energy in the room. Thank you to @valslist for cultivating such a special community and a safe space for artists to share their music. S/O to my band @bparlier1 @colinscottbass @jeremiah_higgins @emma_lyn_music @joannchokirk for their superb performances (in sweltering heat no less), @samrosen52 and @sam_ro_film for the beautiful video work, @schmidtrecording for recording, Ryan Herma for mixing, and themichaelschatz for taking the cover photo. Links to the full videos and where to stream the album in my bio ✌🏻♥️ #singersongwriter #acoustic #newmusic #folk #chicagomusic by @toddkessler
It’s often the songs you least expect to have an impact that end up finding their way into people’s lives in a way you could have never imagined. “Old Fashioned Way” is that song for me. It’s been used in television shows and commercials throughout the world but more importantly it has been a marker of milestones for people in my life and others I’ll never know. Thank you for loving this song and I hope you connect with this version from our @valslist show from last year at the Winnetka Chapel. Full video available on YouTube and now streaming anywhere you get your music ✌🏻❤️ Recorded by @schmidtrecording mixed by Ryan Herma filmed by @samrosen52 Violin @emma_lyn_music Guitar @jeremiah_higgins Drums @bparlier1 Bass @colinscottbass Piano @joannchokirk #oldfashionedway #acoustic #singersongwriter #folk by @toddkessler

One year of “Here Is All We Have”! This song is one of my favorites of mine (I can say that, right?) and in many ways helped me find a sound I had been searching for for a long time. So much gratitude to the musicians who helped bring it life @hallymusic @graham_hopkins @robbiemaloneofficial @lenny.cahill @jg.shadid and @michaelbarkleymusic and s/o to @judechicago for filming and branding help ✌🏻❤️ Fun fact: I came down with covid while filming this video and still feel bad for getting Jude sick. Sorry dude! #singersongwriter #acoustic #folk #chicagomusic #folksoul by @toddkessler

There’s so much to say but I can’t find the words yet. I opened the show with Song Of Good Hope because that’s what @glenhansard ‘s music gave us. More videos and more words to come but for now, thank you Glen ❤️ #glenhansard #songofgoodhope #glen by @toddkessler

🚨New Music 🚨 “Plea Of St. Luke” was written at a time when the rights of many Americans were being stripped away, and although I wrote this song in 2019 and the issues at hand have evolved, we are still seeing that basic human rights are at risk in this country. In 2019 it was the trend of state Governors who were limiting women’s access to healthcare and then later the laws stripping Trans Americans of their basic dignity. This year it was the invasion of ICE into so many communities around the U.S. We have a duty to honor and respect the humanity of all people living in our beautiful and messy home, and although our leaders may fail us, we can’t fail each other ✌🏻❤️ Full video on YouTube Recorded by @schmidtrecording Mixed by Ryan Herma Filmed by @samrosen52 @landscape_studios13 Drums @bparlier1 Bass @colinscottbass Guitar @jeremiah_higgins Violin @emma_lyn_music Piano @joannchokirk by @toddkessler
