Rest in Paradise Kona Bear. Kona has been my partner and lil buddy through everything and I appreciate everything she did for me she was truly my best friend. Kona was a rescue pup but she rescued me for sure. Kona passed away this afternoon in the dog hospital. Today the puppy sitter called and said Kona wasn’t looking good. The vet thinks her Valley fever may have suddenly affected her brain. She’s been fighting Valley fever for years. She recently had a relapse but just before we left to LOTO she was getting better and was back to her crazy self jumping in the pool and always had a ball in her mouth. Either way I’m choosing to remember Kona in the happy times. You will be missed Kona Bear 🥰🥰🥰🥰 taken in Captain Ron's by @toddtaylorimages

I never know what I’ll be doing from one day to the next—or even one minute to the next. Life can be unpredictable, but I like it that way. It keeps things interesting and is good for my head.

Today, I got a call about five people in trouble in the desert behind Lake Havasu. A flash flood had swept their Jeep down a wash. Search and Rescue was already looking for them on the ground, but bad weather had made it uncertain whether the Arizona DPS helicopter could fly in from Phoenix.

The mother of one of the missing people knows me and knew I had helicopter connections, so she called. Fortunately, I was in Havasu. I made a few calls, and, as always, the helicopter community came through. Nate and his wife from Havasu Helicopters flew to the command post at Standard Wash and picked me up.

We searched the Mohave Wash area for about an hour, checking likely locations, including Dollar Cabin. We found the Jeep about a mile up the wash from the cabin. Even though the rain in Havasu had stopped several hours earlier, the water was still flowing hard in the normally dry wash.

We continued up the wash toward Lake Havasu, hoping the group had gone that way. Soon after, the DPS helicopter arrived, and the missing people were located on top of the mountain. DPS landed, picked them up, and flew them to the command post, where they were reunited with their families.

I’m grateful that everyone made it out safely. The lesson is simple: never go off-roading in a wash during a storm. The water can remain dangerous long after the rain stops.
