A few weeks ago, I received an email from an institution I had never reached out to, never applied to, and had never been nominated for by anyone I know. The Institute of Strategic Business Management and Public Administration — headquartered in Ghana, with a mission to revitalize Africa through visionary leadership — told me they had researched my work. And they wanted to honour me with a Distinguished Fellowship Doctorate in Media Technology and Public Relations Management.
I sat with that message for a long time before I responded.
Because here is what nobody tells you about building something: there are seasons where you question everything. Where you wonder if the standard you are holding yourself to is even visible to anyone outside your own head. Where the work is real and the effort is immense but the world just keeps moving and you keep showing up anyway — quietly, stubbornly, sometimes desperately — because you don’t know how to do it any other way.
I didn’t go looking for this. Nobody put my name forward. They found the work.
That is the thing that broke me open a little. Not the title. The fact that doing it right — even when it was hard, even when it was slow, even when nobody was watching — eventually becomes impossible to ignore.
Today I receive this honour. And I receive it on behalf of every person who is in that quiet season right now. Still building. Still holding the standard. Still showing up.
Your work is speaking. Even when you can’t hear it yet.

Please address me properly going forward 🤣🙏❤️

Last Wednesday at church, pastor @jude_chinye profound words resonated deeply – urging me to transcend providence and manifest clear evidence of a higher calling. His insight sparked contemplation on the interplay between providence and the confirmation of God’s purpose in our lives.

Reflecting on Savvy Media’s decade-long journey, I’ve witnessed orchestrated alignments with my passion. Yet, a crucial element was missing - ‘SPEED.’ Over the past two years, as my spiritual growth gained momentum, divine orchestrations unfolded, culminating in this significant ‘Appointment’ – a confirmation echoing Pastor Jude’s wisdom.

A pivotal moment unfolded during my speaking engagement in Abuja last year, powered by @skyewise_foundation, Seated beside me was none other than a global leader, @drlinusokorie; Googling him revealed the magnitude of his greatness. Little did I know that this encounter would lead to my role as the Country Representative of the African Leadership Conference 2024, set to grace Ghana.

Heartfelt gratitude to @drlinusokorie for recognizing the light within me and entrusting me with this profound privilege. As I embark on this laudable journey, I pray for speed, grace, favor, and excellence in ensuring the realization of the goals set for this impactful event.

More on this laudable initiative to come… 🙏✨ #JourneyOfPurpose #ALC2024 #GratefulHeart

In recent times, we’ve witnessed a remarkable surge of individuals and professionals joining the dynamic PR landscape in Nigeria. This trend signals a renewed recognition of the essential role PR plays across various parastatals in the country. As the saying goes, the sky is expansive enough for everyone to soar, and it’s truly an exciting era for the PR industry.

Reflecting on my journey, having spent a decade in the media space, initially in magazine publication, where I dedicated my efforts to spotlighting the achievements of Africans in diverse fields. My experience extended to a significant role at the telecommunications giant, MTN, where I honed my skills in copywriting, content creation, and digital marketing. These years equipped me with the tools to navigate the intricacies of the PR landscape seamlessly.

Now, two years into my PR venture, I find myself humbled and elated to be recognized as the PR Personality of the Year 2023. The journey has been surreal, and I am genuinely excited about the prospects that 2024 holds. It’s not just a new year; it’s an opportunity for fresh tasks, new challenges, and continued growth.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to every brand that entrusted us with their brand communications this year. Your trust has been the driving force behind our success, and we are eager to take on even more in 2024. Nigeria is 66 today.
And I want to say something that might sound strange coming from someone who builds reputations for a living:

Nigeria doesn’t have a talent problem. It never did.
Our sound is on the world’s biggest stages. Our stories are streaming in homes we will never visit. Our founders are building in rooms that once didn’t have a seat for us. Our creatives are setting trends that others study and copy.

The world already knows Nigeria. Visibility was never the issue.
What we have is a reputation-alignment problem. The story we tell, and the story the world experiences when it actually deals with us, don’t always match.

In my work, I say this often: visibility without credibility is noise.
That’s true for a founder, a brand, an institution. And it’s true for a nation.
Our culture went ahead of us. It built the brand before our systems were ready to carry it. Every time a global partner hesitates, every time a Nigerian professional has to work twice as hard to prove they can deliver to “international standard,” we are paying for that gap.

But here’s the part I hold onto:
A nation’s reputation isn’t built only in government offices. It’s built in every proposal we send, every deadline we keep, every promise we honour, every room we walk into and leave better than we met it.
When I wrote my last e-book Becoming the Brand, the core idea was simple: presence, not performance. You can’t polish your way into trust. You become it, consistently, until the story and the substance are the same thing.

That’s my Independence Day wish for Nigeria. Not a rebrand. Alignment.
So today, I’m asking myself, and I’m asking you:
What part of Nigeria’s story are you making true through your work?

Happy 66th, Nigeria. 🇳🇬
The world already knows our sound. Let’s make it trust our standard.

Nobody warns you about the occupational hazard of working in a perception market.

When you’re in PR — when your job is literally to shape how things look, sound, and land; you understand the mechanics of perception better than almost anyone.

Which also makes you the most susceptible to it.

At some point, looking like a thriving agency became almost as valuable as being one. The right clients to name-drop. The right events to be seen at. The right aesthetic on the feed. And because you know how the game works, you play it well.

But here’s what that costs: the energy you spend managing the image maybe energy you’re not putting into the infrastructure. The systems. The team. The things that don’t photograph well but hold everything together when the room gets quiet.

Perception opens doors. But it doesn’t keep you standing once you’re inside.

The brands and founders I respect most right now are the ones doing the unglamorous work — building substance behind the signal. Not performing capacity. Actually developing it.

That’s the harder choice in an industry that rewards how things look. And it’s the more important one.

If you’re in this market, as a founder, a communicator, a brand I’d ask you one question:

Is the perception you’re managing ahead of the business you’re building? Or behind it?

The gap between those two things is worth sitting with. #Blessed #Grateful by @tofunmi.a

365 Days later, Awards are deeply validating, but the true prize is the consistency in between: the midnight strategy decks, the creative risks that paid off, and the trust our client partners place in us every day. We didn’t take the title as a finish line, we took it as a benchmark.

Thank you to our team, our clients, and everyone who believes in our vision to build Africa’s most ambitious brands. Here’s to setting an even higher standard this week! #savvy #365days by @tofunmi.a

A few days ago, my darling @sandymaduxo and I spent time with the team at VVIP FastTrack, the people behind Nigeria’s most discreet airport arrivals. We had a few special guests in mind as we walked through.

They gave us a tour of the entire facility, and it was beautiful. There are private suites sized for every kind of guest: intimate rooms for two, spaces for three, and larger suites for more. Each was designed so that a founder, a family or a full executive team can land, breathe and be looked after in privacy while the formalities are handled for them.
Private terminals. Fast-track immigration. Lounges away from the crowd. Chauffeured transfers. It all runs so smoothly that it’s easy to forget how much work sits behind it.

In our conversation, the CEO spoke about how long it took to build all of this. It took years of patience, relationships, approvals and quiet persistence before any guest ever walked through those doors. That level of excellence was built one step at a time, by someone who refused to settle for “this is how it’s done here.”

As a founder, I felt that deeply. The things that look effortless are usually the ones that cost the most to build.

@savvypr_ , we’re intentional about the rooms we enter and the partnerships we build. Our work in strategic positioning, executive networking and program design depends on it.

When the vision is excellence, you align with people who have already paid the price for it.
First impressions are strategy. So is every partnership behind them.

Thank you to the VVIP FastTrack team for a beautiful experience. 🇳🇬✈️

Some of my best work has no case study. No tag. No “here’s what we did” post; just an NDA, a client who got exactly what they needed, and my name nowhere near it, on purpose.

For a long time that used to sit strangely with me. Now I see it differently: the biggest compliment in this industry isn’t a byline — it’s being trusted enough to disappear from the story. The work you can’t post about is often the work that mattered most.

This is the whole argument behind my book Becoming the Brand — that your identity was never meant to be built on what’s visible. It’s presence, not performance. The rooms you’re trusted in matter more than the receipts you can show for them.

If most of your best work is happening where no one can see it, you’re not behind. You’re building the kind of brand that doesn’t need an audience to be real.

Becoming the Brand — 30 days to build an identity that doesn’t need a witness still in my bio.

Your success might be an answered prayer for someone else.

Someone is praying for the right person to walk into their business.

Someone is hoping to meet someone they can trust.

Someone is looking for a person whose gifts can solve a problem.
Someone is waiting for the person who can help them build, grow, or move forward.

And you might be that person.

So perhaps not everyone is against you. Perhaps there are people you haven’t even met yet who are praying for someone exactly like you.

This is why becoming a person of value matters.

Your growth isn’t just about you. Your discipline isn’t just about you. Your becoming isn’t just about you.

There is someone whose prayer will be answered by the person you are becoming.

Keep becoming. Someone is waiting for the value you carry. by @tofunmi.a

I walked into ProPak West Africa not entirely sure what to expect.

Halls filled with machinery, packaging solutions, processing equipment, this wasn’t my usual room. I came in as an observer, genuinely curious, and maybe just maybe as a future stakeholder in this space in ways I’m not quite ready to say yet. 😊

But what struck me first wasn’t the exhibition itself. It was the organisation.

From the moment we registered, ProPak’s communications were seamless. Every touchpoint felt intentional — the pre-event information, the experience on the day, and even after the event ended, the emails kept coming. Feedback. Follow-ups. Continued conversation. That last email landed in my inbox and honestly made me smile, because in an industry full of events that go completely silent the moment the lights go down — ProPak chose to keep showing up.

That is a masterclass that a lot of event organisers need to study.

I also left thinking about how often the communications and marketing world overlooks industries like this one. Packaging. Processing. Manufacturing. These are sectors solving real, critical problems — the kind that sit at the foundation of almost every product we use daily. And yet so few of the brands here are telling their story in a way that makes the world stop and pay attention.

That gap is always what finds me.

My team and I met the organizers and left genuinely excited!
