The end of her last “first day” in elementary school. I wanted to be “fun mom” in the evening …then remembered I get to choose what kind of mom I am now. That wasn’t always the case.

A few hours to pack trash bags. Whatever didn’t fit in the SUV, we left behind. A judge granted my restraining order with 10 minutes left in the court day, just enough time to leave the state. Months of fear after that. An explosive temper. Guns in the house. He took everything.

Different people, different seasons, different struggles….but pain is universal.

Watch the movie “Maid” if you haven’t. The details differ, but a mother’s fear of how she’ll provide for her child? That never changes.

South Asian culture loves to tell us life is basically over after 40, after divorce, after kids. Here’s to 42, surrounded by people I love, celebrating unapologetically, divorced, remarried, two kids. AH 🙏🏽🤍 It’s never the end of anything... it’s a rewrite. No more inherited shame, no more toxic narratives. Just gratitude, joy, and the freedom to live fully. Alhamdulillah 🤍
