Toilet Rats has been haunting the historied Minneapolis music scene for years. More recently, Tommy Ratz has taken his sewage sludge synth and eclectic dance vibes to the stage, playing at venues all across the city and beyond. Megaphone in hand and Halloween at heart, they’re a pillar of the Bone Skeletons cinematic universe.

Three albums I’ve been enjoying lately:

Ceremony - Tell Me Your Dream
I love this band and it’s been a lot of fun seeing them evolve from a feral hardcore/power violence act into a post-punk powerhouse. They never make the same record twice. This time, they take cues from ‘80s anarcho punk (among other things), bringing the tempo and energy back up a few notches. John Reis’ production adds a little Hot Snakes vibes and tones, too. This one has been on heavy rotation.

Refute - s/t
@refute_mpls are a new hardcore band in the Minneapolis scene who are making waves. It’s not metalcore, just good no BS hc played with precision and grit, and Katy’s vocals are A+.

Raveonettes - In and Out of Control
One of my favorite bands and I usually have one of their albums in my rotation. This month, it’s been In and Out of Control, which perfectly marries vintage chamber pop with nuclear fuzz guitars and heavenly harmonies. by @toiletrats
