HONEYMOON.

I cannot put into words the gratitude I feel being able to spend two weeks with my wife galavanting around Europe. Ripping around Rome late night on bikes, eight hour hikes in the Dolomites, sunrise dips under a Calder mobile, secret beaches that required harrowing hikes, and topping it off with the Rick show in Paris. There’s so many visceral moments from this road trip that live rent free.

I thought maybe the plan was too ambitious or I might push Emily to the brink (which almost happened on the Paris subway in 6 inch Rick heels), but I’m proven once again how perfect of a match she is. What a privilege we can spend eternity together.

CEREMONY.

Welcome to my overdue wedding post. I always like the date of posts of significant things to also be, well, significant. And one year ago today I asked Emily Magee to spend the rest of our lives together. This might get long, so in short, I had a perfect wedding with a perfect group of friends, perfect family, and a perfect wife.

I never thought about marriage when I was young. I didn’t understand how you could feel so strongly for someone that you’d stay by their side through all the ups and downs of life. I remember talking to my mom about this, making some dumb absolute statement like “Marriage is stupid. I’ll never get married.” I remember her crying when I told her this, which she often did, but it didn’t stop her from making absolutely sure the one thing she left to anyone before she died was her wedding ring and that it went to me. The only son.

I think she knew I’d find the person that I’ve never question my feelings for. The undeniable perfect match — Emily + her golden retriever Willow.

Ok, to the wedding. We rolled into West Texas to pouring rain and flooded roads. I’m used to things going wrong so I thought it was par for the course. Turns out it was the first rain it months and knocked all the dust out the sky and made for a series of some of the most beautiful sunsets.

Everyone made it. All my friends, all my family. Everyone explored Big Bend or Marfa and got to experience places Emily I loved. Best friends who hadn’t seen each other in years reunited. I had all of my people in one place, in the middle of nowhere.

It’s hard to describe. I was walked down the aisle by my mom’s two sisters (one is an identical twin), my dad played Avril 14th for me and then the song he wrote for his wedding for Emily, I was married by Emily’s dad who I have endless respect and admiration for, I had hummingbirds whizzing around me as I told Emily how much I loved her, OUR dog Willow brought us flowers. Never a moment of hesitation. Not a pang of anxiety. Anyone that truly knows me has seen the 180 in my life since Emily came into it.

I am going to join the bandwagon on this one in congratulating #McNut on winning Worlds.

Never have a felt so emotionally invested in a team winning. The Pagnuelo climb was so crowded we couldn’t get race updates because the cell service was down. 20 minutes between laps, filled with anticipation to see if Quinn’s group would get away or if McNulty would hold on the last two laps. I lost my voice screaming. The energy was electric. A neighbor on the climb turned his TV on in the living so the fans could watch the final few kilometers tick away through his window.

I would’ve been satisfied with riding the 320 miles over two days to get to Montreal just to watch Worlds (more on this soon). But to have two American Champs? Unreal. Bikes are so fucking SICK.

I am tired. I have a cold. Off-season is now.

SOFT HANDS NO MORE.

@willcoequip lent me two CTLs (compact track loaders for the soft handed non-blue collar workers) to speed up the track clean up after the LCRA flooded the track.

Nothing is more empowering than operating heavy equipment. The overwhelming power of the hydraulics coursing through the machine is like a drug.

58mph bunnyhop over a rock still has me puckered up.

CUT STRAIGHT THROUGH THE LIMESTONE WALLS OF THE HILL COUNTRY IS THE FASTEST DESCENT IN TEXAS.

With a proper leadout into the base of this descent I am positive my 200lb frame could break… 70. by @tolleyalways

The Driveway Series — it’s an institution. Here’s to 20 more years of racing!

Excruciating & relaxing — my ideal vacation. A perfect combo of mountains, camping, hikes, biking, hot springs and more for a birthday trip planned entirely by @eamags. Chasing every waterfall with my ride or die till I die.

Also finally tired out Willow to the point of exhaustion which has been a goal of mine to prove I have more energy than a Golden Retriever.
