The back room walls are now out, ready for the new bar to be constructed, while outside the cellar has been roofed and fully cladded.

There’s still plenty to do, but we’re making great progress and it’s getting easier to picture how the finished Town Street Tap will look. 👀🍻

Thank you to Amanda Hack MP NW Leics and Samantha Niblett MP South Derbys for taking the time to come and visit us at the Milking parlour this Saturday.

Some 18 months ago we met with them both to raise our concerns over the Governments increases in Employers NI, business rates and the above inflation increase in the National Minimum wage. Todays visit was to show the actual effect of these increases in reality! We also raised our ongoing concern of the narrowing of the differential between under and over 21s National Minimum wage and our view on the detrimental effect this was having on young people getting jobs in hospitality.

We discussed the crazy UK energy market and how small businesses were completely at the mercy of the mega energy companies. On planning, we specifically raised the time it has taken to get amendments to Bio diversity nett gain and particularly the 0.2 hectare exemption, which for us at the milking Parlour will be a big help with our future development plans. Very please to see that this legislation should now come into effect at the end of this month.

We showed Amanda and Samantha our nearly £300k investment last year in solar panels, new toilets, mini sewage treatment plant and 2 electric vans. We discussed our investment plans for the next 12 months and beyond, commencing in the next couple of weeks with the extension and refurbishment of our Duffield pub, The Town Street Tap, including two new residential flats over. Once completed the Town Street Tap will have our biggest keg range of any Tollgate pub.

At Tollgate we have always engaged with our MPs regardless of political party. I believe all of us in hospitality should use every opportunity to engage with our MPs, hopefully providing them with the information they need to lobby Government on our behalf. Tollgate is a growing and successful hospitality business and we are very proud of what we have achieved.

Thank you Amanda and Samantha for listening to and engaging with us.
