“when the cameras on…”

After 3 years of learning, 1.5 years trying to make it freelance, through cafés, restaurants, tears, and wanting something more for myself, I’m happy to say I am now making a living doing photography 🥳

I’ve had the best time with @australianpokertour_ on their Melbourne Champs II series as their DoP, and can’t wait for what’s coming next. Who knew I’d be shooting poker! ♠️

“why do we still have pride?”

This is a picture of me from 2022 at my first party. I was in high school; a theatre kid. I talked differently from the other boys: an excuse to be ridiculed and bullied, mostly in private, behind closed doors - but the truth would come out when I’d speak too loudly or passionately in class, when I acted a little bit too ‘gay’ for the straight boys comfort. This is when I would be mocked, laughed at, pictures and videos of me would flood group chats of boys who didn’t know better than to laugh at someone they never cared to understand.

I was 14.

This kind of treatment isn’t uncommon towards queer men, and I’m afraid it’s only getting worse.

I was bullied because I was different and when I raised concerns at my school about how I was being treated, they agreed that it will have been charged by homophobia, but I also remember that nothing was done in response. How could you prove it?

This year, pride feels more important to me than ever. Homophobia in my generation and generations to come only seem to be rising. My home country massively supports a party that actively encourages hate and discrimination towards minority groups. A party that wants to scrap the equality act entirely (?????).

The conversation around my sexuality still is one I am uncomfortable with, because it shouldn’t even be a conversation. I refuse and will continue to refuse your labels while I continue to love whoever I want to, loudly.

I am frightened for my future as a queer man. But understanding and change is not impossible.
