One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how much time and energy people give with nothing expected in return.

Nowhere is that more clear than in jiu jitsu. The amount of coaches and training partners who give their time just to see you improve says everything about what this is really about.

Everyone is just trying to get better.

Special shoutout to @sparkspower for helping me level up and see things from a different angle. And to my coach @asimh5050 for putting me under the pressure he knows I need.

The last few weeks have been interesting. I have stepped outside my comfort zone and pushed myself mentally in new areas of jiu jitsu.

I am usually the friendly guy who wants to get along with everyone, not someone who turns up the intensity. But that is starting to change and it is making a real difference to my confidence on the mat.

Thanks @the_fort_gym for capturing some of today. Extra thanks to big man @coachwarwicksouth for being a willing and awesome training partner.

I asked Lewis what made him fall in love with vintage clothing.

What he said stuck with me.

He talked about being brought up to appreciate things. To look after them. To value them properly.

And it made me think how far we’ve drifted from that.

Everything now feels disposable. Wear it, replace it, move on.

But with vintage, or cars, or anything built properly, there’s a different mindset. You look after it. You maintain it. You take a bit of pride in owning it.

There’s something in that.

If we can do it with cars and watches, why not with what we wear every day?

Last year was mostly work no one saw.

Stress. Setbacks. Long days trying to push things forward that felt stuck in the mud.

But the last few weeks have been different.
Business wins. Momentum. Doors opening.

Life moves in seasons. I know this part won’t last forever.

But I’m grateful for the moments when the pieces start to come together and I intend to enjoy them.

When I asked Carter from Attitude Cycles about the mental health conversation, I thought his take was really refreshing.

He openly admits he’s probably ADHD… but he’s never felt the need to chase a diagnosis.

What he said was that mental health has almost become fashionable. Everyone wants to be the person bringing awareness to the issue.

And I think there’s some truth in that.

Talking about mental health online often gets praise. It makes people feel virtuous. But the real question is, is it actually helping?

Awareness is important. But at some point the conversation has to move beyond talking and towards what actually improves people’s lives.

I asked Jack from @salvageandsawdustco about the early days of starting his business.

He put all his time, money and energy into opening the shop… and when the doors finally opened, no one came.

But slowly, things started happening. People started coming in. Word spread. The shop began to grow.

There’s a lesson in that.

Starting something of your own can feel intimidating, and sometimes progress is painfully slow. But if you stick with it long enough, momentum has a funny way of showing up.
