I’m so glad I stayed for one of the most unique, interesting celebrations I’ve had in Southeast Asia
🎆
I received my first ever red envelope, ate traditional Tet feasts with my friends families and saw (and partook in) the burning of many offerings.
🧧
Though Tet (literally meaning ) shares similarities with the celebrations in China and Korea, it has its own distinct Vietnamese spin on the activities, food and traditions that take place over Lunar New Year.

For the last 8 years, overnight stays have (rightfully) been illegal at Maya bay. Years of over-tourism destroyed the marine life, but thankfully things have since made an incredible recovery.
🌊
But before I - and every single tourism agency in Thailand - knew any better, we were allowed to sleep on boats inside the bay. I experienced this incredible privelidge a few times while working with @introtravel as groups watched the sun go down before having a bonfire on a nearby sand bank then sleeping on the roof of the boat (uncomfortable as hell but worth it for the vibes 😂)

One night, I got special permission to shoot from the beach for an hour before sunrise, capturing a view of Thailand that has rarely been seen before. Our boats bobbed in front of the Limestone mountains made famous in the Leonardo Dicaprio film ‘the beach’ - and the stars dazzled overhead. Literally, the stuff of movies.
