📍The best rainbow slide near Almaty, Kazakhstan 🇰🇿

You are never too old to feel like a kid again. This is the rainbow slide at @gorka_pana_ayusai , a giant rainbow-striped slide in the Ayusai Gorge just outside Almaty.

You hop on a mat, somebody gives you a push, and gravity handles the rest.

I rode it, I screamed the entire way down, and I would do it again tomorrow. Four rides cost 3,000 tenge, about $6.60, which might be the cheapest thrill in all of Kazakhstan.

Getting there: it is about 30 minutes from Almaty by car. Grab a Yandex Go taxi or book it as part of a Big Almaty Lake day tour, most of them stop here.

Save this for your Almaty trip. And be honest, would you scream too or are you braver than me?

My baby is 20 today 😭

Nobody warns you how fast it goes. One minute she is dancing in the living room in a sparkly dress, the next she is grown, gorgeous, and riding shotgun with the top down in the @mazdausa MX-5.

Maddie, you are my greatest adventure, and that is saying something. Watching you become this woman is the best trip I have ever taken.

Happy 20th birthday, baby girl. I love you beyond words.

I tried KURT in Kazakhstan and I am still chewing 😭
Kurt (qurt) are these little dried cheese balls made from fermented milk. They are salty, rock hard and basically the original protein bar. Kazakh nomads have carried them for centuries because they last forever without a fridge.
First bite was a workout. I had to hold on to Shannon’s arm. Then I gave up and grabbed a drink 😂
Cheers to trying new things. What is strange to me is everyday food to someone else, and that is one of my favorite things about travel.

I drank HORSE MILK in Kazakhstan and my face says it all 😭

It’s called kumis (qymyz). Basically fermented mare’s milk that is sour AF,, a little fizzy and mildly alcoholic (about 1 to 2%).

People say it tastes like champagne mixed with sour cream. I will let you decide if that is a compliment.

Kazakhs have been drinking it for thousands of years. It is a nomadic tradition and a big deal in hospitality. When someone offers you kumis, you drink it.

Saying no is not really an option. PJ went first because I was scared. Then it was my turn. No cuts. 😂

Y’all I went to jail in Kazakhstan 🥴🥴🥴

We were on a tour and At the last minute I asked one of our guides if I could fly my drone near that sphere building in Astana, and she said yes.

I flew for about 20 minutes. When the low battery warning came on and I started bringing it down and before I knew it a police officer grabbed me violently by the arm and snatched the drone out of my hand.

The area was restricted. None of us knew.

The next thing I know two more officers are pulling up and they hauled my Black ass off to jail 40 minutes away where they held me for 3 hours.

Heaven and earth had to be moved to get me out of jail: from calls to the minister of defense and the head of the Kazakhstan tourism board.

Here is the lesson: a tour guide’s yes is not permission. Drone rules are set by the country and by the exact spot.

Before you start flying a drone abroad, check the drone rules for that location. In Kazakhstan, drones need to be registered and you need permission from the aviation authority before flying over populated parts of cities, so confirm the current rules before you go.

Some countries will detain you, fine you, or worse.

I refused to give up my aisle seat because a lady missed her husband. 😳

The ultimate white tears on a long haul flight from Istanbul to DC.

I was flying home from Kazakhstan because my dad passed away, which is why I look so terrible in this video.

But on my connecting flight from Istanbul to DC, a woman asked me to give up my aisle seat so she could sit next to her husband on a 10+ hour flight.

I said no.

She cried for 3 hours. I finally asked her if someone died, because who cries for 3 hours? She said nobody died. She just missed her husband and whose shoulder would she lay her head on.

Her husband was two rows up in a middle seat with his headphones on, sleeping in heavenly peace the entire flight.

She really wanted me in a middle seat for 10 hours so she could lay her head on his shoulder.

When we landed, I told her, “Good job. Look at you surviving without your husband for 10 hours.”

Now I need to reevaluate my marriage because I clearly do not love my husband enough. 😂

What is wrong with people that they feel they can ask a stranger to switch seats, especially on a long haul flight?

Is it rude to refuse to switch seats on a plane? If you want to sit together, book together or pay for seat selection.

Y’all I went to Ireland for the history and the pubs, and then…

Ireland’s seafood is genuinely underrated and nobody talks about it enough. Fresh, local, perfectly done, and this is not what I expected, and I am so glad I was wrong.

The mussels. I need everyone to hear me when I say THE MUSSELS.

Goosers is a riverside pub on the banks of the Shannon in Killaloe, Co. Tipperary, about 2 hours from Dublin. Run by two chefs, been there since the 80s, with daily specials on the board and portions that will not disappoint.

If you’re road tripping Ireland, this is a mandatory stop. Non-negotiable.

Dublin sold me on pubs and history. What I wasn’t prepared for was the outdoors and kayaking right through the middle of the city.

Picture it: I’m on the River Liffey, rowing past the monuments, and as we pass under one of the bridges, we received a personal concert. Traditional Irish songs, the sound bouncing off the stone, just for us on the water.

I am not the best kayaker!

But this was an easy, smooth experience the whole way. So if you’re a total newbie to kayaking, do not let that stop you. You can absolutely do this.

If you’re planning a trip to Dublin and you want something most tourists never even hear about, this is it. Here’s everything you need:
