Around 1995, @tommycaudill and @dannyway asked me to create an icon for @xyzclothing I drew version after version until we hit the one that got the “Hell yeah. That’s it.” I had no idea that little hand-drawn icon would become one of the first designs of mine to actually become part of a culture. Danny Way wore it. XYZ built a cult following out of Carlsbad. Steve-O liked it enough to permanently tattoo the damn thing on his arm. 😂 That logo opened the door for me to work with XYZ through some incredible years—apparel, catalogs, advertising and creative—and became another piece of the path I didn’t even realize I was building. No AI. No grand career plan. Just drawing shit, chasing ideas, and trying to make something cool. 21 years ago, life had gotten super dark and I knew something had to change. I finally became willing to ask for help and take a different path. That decision changed everything! Today I’m beyond grateful for this life and for family, friends, mentors, and amazing people who have loved me, guided me, and had my back along the way. Years ago, after breaking my radius and needing surgery, I was told it was a “free lapse” and that I could take as many pain pills as I wanted without affecting my recovery. Looking back, that was dangerous advice for me. This time, with a broken fibula, I chose Tylenol, Advil and physical therapy only. For me,my sobriety is worth protecting at all costs. ⚡️👊⚡️ by @tommycaudill
