VOLKSOPER WIEN OPERNSTUDIO 26-28

Incredibly excited to announce that I will be joining the Opera Studio at the @volksoper this coming Autumn! I feel very lucky to be able to join my fellow studio artists at such a vibrant and exciting company, and I can't wait to see what the future holds in this beautiful city! 🇦🇹

Went to New York to hear the world première of Tom's orchestral piece ⭐

-Ate lots of really good food

-Watched our first opera at the Met

-Almost got stuck in a blizzard

-Got overwhelmed

-Saw some pretty cool art

-Lots of walkies

Meet Tomos Owen Jones (@tomosjones96): Welsh tenor, composer, and conductor, whose piece 'Flow: Journey of a River' will have its world premiere at our concerts this February 21 and 22!

Reflecting on the nature of rivers—their unique musical atmosphere and ever-changing rhythms—this score shines a spotlight on the trickling drops, meandering streams and great roaring rivers crashing into waterfalls that culminate in the inevitable arrival at the sea.

Tomos Owen Jones is a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Young Artist at the National Opera Studio. Based in Wales and London, he creates choral, orchestral and operatic works inspired by literature, art and Welsh traditions. His compositions have been premiered by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and performed at the National Eisteddfod. His competition successes include the WNO-RWCMD Composition Competition 2021 and Welsh Guards March Competition 2024. Tomos is also the founder and Musical Director of May Street Opera, and his first chamber opera "The Egg" was premiered at Atmospheres Festival 2023. As a passionate performer of new music, he has premiered numerous roles including Y in Plaut’s The Y Knot (RWCMD) and the Data Collector in Richard Barnard’s Nonsensus (Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival).
