This week I was invited to play a little part in making this mad idea a reality; 101 karts on an extended track, each with individually routable IEMs and live Mics, and able to chat in real-time not just to each other, but to the commentators, race engineers, and producers on command.

Cannot give enough praise to @antonyshawaudio and @spiritlandproductions for having the guts to take on this brilliantly ambitious project, working closely with @sennheiser to deploy #Spectera across such a wide area, with high range and high quality links achieved with an immensely elegant combination of software, api, and hardware built ground-up specifically for the project; @sslaudio #systemt doing all the heavy lifting on the audio side with externally triggered dynamic routing, mix minuses, automixing and noise suppression; and categorically the largest singular, centralised AV network I’ve ever seen deployed on Netgear, 4250s managing not just hundreds of audio channels in Dante, but switching and control data, video data and NDI, web access for 10+ live-streaming youtube channels with switchable sources, AES67 Riedel & motorola comms for a crew of over 700, and handling the reserve TX line to ESPN and Disney. Mega.

A huge honour to be a part of bringing this idea to the racetrack and pioneering “proximity chat” for more real life, live events of the future.

Extra props to @willthornton15 @joshstu.comm and @plus4audio @neil_.white handling a sprawling comms system, @rasoundeng for handling all things streaming, @tomross1 for connectivity and planning the mad amounts of antennas, APs and switches, @itsaliciajade @soundfairypurple @misstashikins Mike and Lewis smashing mics on 100 folks in no time at all, @claire_middleton_audio for streaming magic, and @andywood_sw19 for bringing us all to the party. by @tomross1

Here is the incredible team behind #proximitychat on Max vs 100.

We want to thank the whole team for helping to make this a reality, it was a lot of hard work and a lot of long hours.

The absolute best in their field, thank you. 🙏

An Evening with Elton John + Brandi Carlisle.

Producing a major broadcast event like this is a true team effort.

Pulling this together technically as Unit Manager for Fulwell with the awesome team @spiritlandproductions was really good fun - relishing every challenge and creative change. We landed on 10 Sony Venice 2s and 3 FR7s in a cine multicam workflow.

There are so many moving parts when delivering full cinematic multicam video facilities, comprehensive audio recording and mixing, production comms and technical project management and the stellar team nailed it - delivering everything seamlessly plus a fully synced multicam timeline ready for the edit in just 12 hours.

A huge thank you to the whole team from vision and sound GTs, ENGs, Supervisors, shaders, mixers, assists, jib, Furio, inverted towercam techs, DoP Rob, Cam Sup Sophie and Dir Liz Clare. Plus the incredibly talented team of ACs, Spud, Clem, Josh and Jay!
