Tree of Many Faces (Mitme Näoga Puu)

Coming up with the fantastical world of our film with @aulejohannes and @livclarkeart was a challenge and a thrill.

A huge part of this was getting to shoot on 35mm. Most of the film we shot on the @kodak_shootfilm 5213 stock which proved to be the best in our sunny Yorkshire day exteriors and gave the film such a textured, ancient quality.

One of our early inventions was the creation of the inner tree world. Foolishly, I said to @aulejohannes we could use a probe lens to feel as though the camera was getting deeper and deeper into the tree. From a tip by the wise @stuartrharris , generous help from @mackeymackey and a beautiful set designed by @livclarkeart we used the Frazier system to twist our way into the tree.

Too many people to thank but I’m gonna try here - @aulejohannes and @livclarkeart for another amazing experience working with them both. @maraciorba for her eye and dedication in the grade. @joshuabaylis for killing it pulling on 35mm for the first time and keeping things running smoothly in the background. @zezegule @thegakler @taniazkita for grafting and providing laughs in the wilds of Yorkshire. @mark.lane_ @george.tsamis95 and the whole lighting team for their hard work. @mackeymackey and everyone at @panavisionofficial for helping make our dreams a reality! @jem_morton and the team at @thegripcompany for their generous support and advice. @kodak_shootfilm and @digital_orchard for making the experience of shooting on 35mm a dream, can’t wait to do it again soon.

Very excited to have our world premiere of Goodnight, Mister Stalin @hotdocs_ tomorrow (3rd April) at 2:15pm in the Scotiabank Theatre. If you are in Toronto come & check it out (we also screen on Saturday)!

Around this time one year ago we spent a memorable few weeks in Gori where we were welcomed by @jane.odi and her family and friends. Georgian hospitality is unmatched ! ❤️🇬🇪

It was an absolute joy to get to work with @claramannn on her live set in the Royal Albert Hall. I couldn’t stop listening to her album after the first time and was touched even more hearing it live - please do watch the set in full!
