Most limiters force you to compromise. ❌

Push them harder, and you often lose punch, introduce distortion, or start changing the tonal balance. That’s why getting loud without sounding smaller is one of the biggest challenges in mastering.

What impressed me most with the @toneprojects Uni-L is that it doesn’t rely on a single limiting process. Instead, it intelligently combines slow limiting, fast limiting, and clipping while remaining frequency-aware. That means different parts of the spectrum can be controlled independently, reducing unwanted pumping and helping preserve transients and tonal balance. ✅

The result isn’t just more loudness.

It’s significantly more control over how that loudness is created.

As a mastering engineer, that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Every record needs a slightly different balance between punch, density, dynamics, and perceived loudness. Having a limiter that lets you shape that balance instead of fighting it is a huge advantage. 🥇

Uni-L looks deep, but the beginner workflow is simple: start with Quick Start.

This short shows the fastest way to get started with Tone Projects Uni-L using the Quick Start preset picker. Instead of diving into every advanced limiter control, you can choose a starting preset, adjust the macro slider, and get strong mastering results quickly.

That is the key: Uni-L gives you an easy entry point for beginners, while still leaving deeper control available when you want to fine-tune slow limiting, fast limiting, clipping, transient detection, adaptive lookahead, and loudness.

I used to use a clipper before my limiter. Now I don’t.

This short is a quick introduction to the smart clipping workflow inside @toneprojects Uni-L: a mastering limiter that lets you clip transients in a more intentional way using transient detection, Clip Attack, Clip Above, fast limiting, and hard clipping.

A normal clipper only reacts to level. If something crosses the clip point, it gets chopped, whether it’s a drum, vocal, bass, 808, or synth.

Uni-L gives you a smarter clipping workflow by letting you decide what counts as a transient, what gets routed to the clipper, and how much clipping is applied. That means you can push drum transients harder while keeping vocals, bass, and sustained material cleaner.

This is not just clipping before a limiter. This is smart clipping inside the limiter.

It's been a while! Time for a quick update...

First, our Black Friday sale starts on... well, you guessed it: Black Friday, Nov. 28 🖤

Secondly, after a long trip down more than a few rabbit holes, we've now reached the late beta testing stage for our next plugin. It's by far the most R&D-heavy effort from Tone Projects so far, and the results are quite remarkable. Not ready for release just yet, but hopefully we'll be able to share more details soon🤞 by @toneprojects

Go check out the mastering course by Brice Deloose from @incidence.studio for some great tips specifically focussed on electronic music. You’ll also get plenty of examples on how Brice uses Michelangelo and Basslane Pro in his masters.
