Being queer, I didn’t grow up feeling celebrated.

There were parts of me that didn’t feel seen.
Parts of me that didn’t feel like they had a place.

Then I found drag.

For the first time, I was seen.
I could take up space.

And I realised…
for a lot of us, that’s what drag becomes.

Not just performance but belonging.

And at some point, something shifts.

You feel like you’ve received what you needed from it.

Not that it’s over.
But it’s not leading anymore.

And that can come with guilt.

Because how do you step back
from something that gave you so much?

But I’ve realised…

Just because something gave you what you needed
doesn’t mean you have to stay there forever. It means it did its job.

I’m not leaving this part of me behind.
I’m letting it rest
so something else can step forward.

They say no one talks about the moment when an artist trades the glitter and glamour for a 9-5 but let’s really talk about it.

We live in a world that constantly asks us to hustle, stay booked and remain busy but we can’t keep giving to a system that doesn’t truly support us as artists.

Sometimes stepping back is about grounding ourselves and rebuilding from the ground up, allowing us to come back to our art with a more authentic voice.

So here’s to those who are still finding their balance, still navigating their way back to the stage and who will one day bring the beauty of their journey back to the spotlight with more heart and soul.

If you’re going through this journey just remember you’re not alone.
