Installation views of the beautiful group exhibition ‘The House and the Forest’ that artist and curator @janice.mcnab put together at @canbalaguer @palmacultura

The project is an insightful comment on our fragile and ever changing interrelation with nature within a domestic environment. The show includes works by @rosacaterinabosch , @louise__hopkins , Ken Kiff, @bonjourlatour , @edwardlipski , Joan Miró, @asuncionmolinosgordo , @joanavasconcelosatelier , anonymous Mallorquín exvoto paintings and Janice McNab.

#thehouseandtheforest es troba en una casa senyorial on el picaporta és una mà de dona que, per entrar, pica amb una poma, però on la vida dels arbres, dels éssers vius, avui ens pot semblar llunyana. Sovint aquests se’ns presenten com a imatges que llisquen a les nostres pantalles amb una nova fragilitat que es torna intocable. Alhora, les nostres ments parpellegen amb ombres que anomenem ansietat climàtica perquè, dins d'aquest distanciament, també sabem que la vida a l'aire lliure defineix la nostra capacitat de viure a cobert, en sapiguem molt o no.

Esta exposición se encuentra en una casa señorial cuya aldaba es una mano de mujer que toca a la puerta golpeándola con una manzana, pero la vida de los árboles, de los seres vivos, hoy, puede parecernos lejana. A menudo llegan a nosotros como imágenes que deslizamos en nuestras pantallas, y su nueva fragilidad se vuelve intocable. Al mismo tiempo, nuestras mentes parpadean con sombras que llamamos ansiedad climática, porque dentro de este distanciamiento también sabemos que la vida al aire libre define nuestra capacidad de vivir en interiores, sepamos mucho sobre ello o no.

'The House and the Forest' is in a stately home whose door knocker is a woman’s hand tapping for entry with an apple, but the life of trees, of living things, can feel remote today. They often enter us as images we slide past on our screens, their new fragility untouchable. At the same time, our minds flicker with shadows we call climate anxiety because within this distancing, we also know that outdoor life defines our ability to live indoors whether we know much about it or not.

NOW ON VIEW: C A S S T L is pleased to present for the first time in Belgium the work of the celebrated Spanish artist collective Equipo 57.

Created in 1957, and lasting until 1962, Equipo 57 was a milestone in the history of artistic modernity in Spain. Equipo 57 positioned itself along an experimental line, favoring a certain interdisciplinarity that sought to bring together artistic and scientific research. Making use of a rigorous abstract geometric language, Equipo 57 defended a type of art with a strong social and political commitment.

Curated by Antoni Ferrer (@tonifrr), the exhibition will bring together a selection of works, including paintings, gouaches, and film—alongside materials that provide historical context. This project is made in collaboration with Galería Rafael Ortiz (@rafaelortizgal) and the generous support of the Spanish Embassy in Belgium (@spainculturebe).

Opening: Thursday, May 14 from 18:00 till 21:00

On view until June 19.

— ARTIST TALK AND BOOK PRESENTATION

Images taken during the book presentation ‘Carla Arocha and Stéphane Schraenen: Monograph as Project’ at Es Baluard Museu in Palma. The conversation featured the two artists and was moderated by Antoni Ferrer.

‘Carla Arocha and Stéphane Schraenen: Monograph as Project’ was edited and authored by curator and art historian Barbara Vanderlinden, with book design by Irma Boom.

The book includes essays by Mónica Amor, Philippe Pirotte, Marc Donnadieu, and Barbara Vanderlinden with interviews by Helen Molesworth and Hans Ulrich Obrist.

Expanding the notion of the artist monograph, this richly illustrated study examines both the individual and collaborative practices of Arocha and Schraenen from the 1990s to today.

We thank the museum, specially its director David Barro as well as Pilar Rubí Head of Public Programme, for hosting the presentation.

This event was part of the official programme of Art Palma Brunch organised by Art Palma Contemporani.

Ante la parálisis y la falta de respuesta por parte del Gobierno a nuestra reivindicación de una bajada del IVA en la venta de obras de arte para artistas y galerías que ponga fin a la desventaja frente al resto de países europeos, que ya gozan de un IVA cultural, las galerías de arte españolas cerrarán sus puertas del 2 al 7 de febrero, cesando así una actividad que defendemos como imprescindible para la sociedad: el acceso gratuito y constante a la creación
artística.

Por una semana, todas las galerías de España dejamos de ser espacios culturales gratuitos abiertos a toda la ciudadanía como forma de protesta y llamar la atención.

Os esperamos a partir del día 9, cuando las galerías vuelvan a abrir para seguir defendiendo su papel como lugares de encuentro con la cultura, compartiendo nuestros espacios con todos vosotros.

In light of the paralysis and lack of response from the Government to our demand for a reduction in VAT on the sale of works of art for artists and galleries, an issue that would put an end to the disadvantage we face compared with other European countries, which already benefit from a reduced cultural VAT rate—Spanish art galleries will close their doors from February 2 to 7. During this time, an activity we consider essential to society will be suspended: free and continuous access to artistic creation.

For one week, galleries across Spain will cease to be free cultural spaces open to all citizens, as a form of protest and to draw attention to this situation to the Government.

We look forward to welcoming you again from February 9, when galleries reopen to continue defending their role as places of encounter with culture, sharing our spaces with all of you

Fa molt de temps que conec a Jero i Amador, a més de la meva admiració per la seva tasca com a galerista i artista, sento per ells una estima que s’ha anat consolidant en una bona amistat.

@jero_martinez_maior i @amadormagraner_ són dues persones valuoses que s’han dedicat a posar en contacte, amb molta cura, a tots aquells que ens dediquem a aquesta beneïda bogeria de l’art i la cultura, teixint xarxes professionals i d’amistat com poques persones ho han fet en un context com el nostre.

A la @galeriamaior_ seguim disfrutant d’exposicions meravelloses de la mà d’artistes que són part de la nostra història: @susana_solano2 @evalootz #Gordillo o @josemariayturralde , molts de nosaltres els hem pogut conèixer gràcies a ells, fins i tot travar una relació més propera gràcies a la seva generositat.

El seu taller d’obra gràfica, el seu recent projecte @costerartinatura o aquesta exposició que acabem d’inaugurar “Homes, llebres i cantets d’alegria”, que creix, de nou, des de l’afecte i la col·laboració amb dos talents d’una altra generació, @juliovarelamoyano i @tonifrr , deixa en evidència la seva indubtable capacitat per donar forma al seu voltant a una xarxa plena de nòduls de valor, una d’aquestes xarxes que permet que l’art i la cultura de la nostra comunitat creixi.

“Homes, llebres i cantets d’alegria” d’Amador i Julio Varela, comissariada per Toni Ferrer de @galeria_fermay , es pot visitar fins a l’11 de setembre a l’Espai Cor. Art al cor de Cort.

Un lloc que s’ha convertit en un punt de trobada i que explica molt bé com són d’apreciats una generació d’artistes i galeristes que han establert els fonaments sobre els que ara construïm. Una generació que admirem i que ens explica amb la seva presència, inauguració rera inauguració, el respecte i l’estima mútua que es té gent tan extraordinària com @joancortesescultor @nacofabre @margalidaescalas @pepllambias @rafaforteza #RamonCanet #PepColl @galeriaxavierfiol @fredericpinya , Jero, Amador...

Ara, la Galeria Maior fa 35 anys, aviat ho celebrarem, però mentrestant, no podia deixar de dir tot això.

Amador i Julio Varela: Homes, llebres i cantets d’alegria.

Del 3 de juliol al 11 de setembre, l’Espai Cor de l’ @ajuntpalma @palmacultura acull la seva nova proposta comissariada per @tonifrr , una exposició que ens farà somriure entre homes, llebres i melodies que celebren l’alegria.

Aquest espai, inaugurat al gener amb l’exitosa exposició “Ple al buit” de @joancortesescultor i que ha continuat amb la també exitosa “Profunditat i límit” de @nacofabre , ha establert un precedent com a punt de trobada per a l’art contemporani a la seu municipal, convertint‑se en el “cor que fa bategar aquesta ciutat”.

@amadormagraner_ i @juliovarelamoyano ens proposen un univers ple de vida, amb figures que evoquen la natura, l’humor i la música. Un diàleg fresc entre art i imaginació, que encaixa amb la filosofia de l’Espai Cor: cultura amb sentiment, emoció i acollida per a tothom.
