At Top 50 Farmers, we focus on farmers already practising regenerative management, while deliberately making room for a small proportion of farms actively transitioning towards regeneration.

This is an intentional choice.

Because we are interested not only in how far farmers have come, but also in the direction they are moving.

Farmers at different stages of regeneration bring different experiences, perspectives and knowledge. And we believe that making these journeys visible can inspire others to begin, continue or deepen their own transition.

Our commitment remains clear: to recognise farmers actively working towards healthier soils, greater biodiversity, resilient farm businesses and thriving landscapes and communities.

Stuart Rogers didn't choose farming so much as inherit it. He milks the same cow families his father and grandfather did before him and looking after them has always felt like a responsibility passed down to him.

Fifteen years ago, to secure the family's future in dairy, he made a big move: relocating his whole herd 100 miles to @longmoorcows, on a tenancy with the Duchy of Cornwall.

Last year, Stuart came across the Top 50 Farmers programme online and was drawn to the community, connections and opportunity it offered. But it was a recommendation from fellow farmer Rachel Hall, @gutchpool, who had been part of the 2025 cohort, that encouraged him to take the next step and apply.

Stuart’s story is a reminder of why recommending a farmer matters. Sometimes, the people doing inspiring work on their farms are the least likely to put themselves forward. A recommendation is a simple way to recognise their work, encourage them to apply and help bring their story into the spotlight.

It takes around two minutes, and the farmer decides whether they want to apply.

Across Europe, farmers are already showing us what is possible.

How do we restore depleted soils?
How do we strengthen biodiversity?
How do we produce food while building resilience, on the farm and beyond it?
How do we create farming businesses that can thrive for generations?

The answers aren't only being discussed in conference rooms or research papers. They are being tested, adapted and put into practice on farms across Europe, field by field, season by season.

At Top 50 Farmers, we want more people to see that work.

Each year, we discover and select 50 regenerative farmers from across Europe. We tell their stories, bring farmers together to exchange knowledge and experience, and connect them with people, opportunities and resources that can strengthen their work.

Because when farmers show what is possible, their knowledge and experience can travel far beyond their own fields, inspiring others and contributing to change across farming.

Many regenerative farmers describe feeling like islands.

They are building healthier soils, strengthening biodiversity and creating more resilient farms, while having few people around them who understand the challenges, decisions and realities that come with that work.

But islands don’t have to remain isolated.

A farmer in Spain can learn from one in Sweden. An idea can travel from one field to another. A conversation can become a collaboration. A lesson learned on one farm can save another farmer years of trial and error.

When farmers connect, knowledge travels. Experience is shared. New relationships and opportunities emerge.

And when those connections extend beyond individual farms, to people, organisations and resources that can strengthen their work, something bigger begins to take shape.

This is part of what we are building through Top 50 Farmers: a growing network and infrastructure around farmers, so that knowledge, relationships and opportunities can travel further than any one farm.

What happens when the field and the kitchen work as one? At @soiltosoulch 2026, this connection takes centre stage, from regenerative growing and seasonal harvests to preservation, short supply chains and the way agriculture can shape what happens in the kitchen.

At The Story Farms in Somerset, UK, @luke_hasell is working towards a 1,000-year vision to regenerate millions of hectares by farming in harmony with nature.

After his father’s passing in 2003, Luke left a career in civil engineering in London to return to the fields of his childhood. Facing soil exhausted by decades of industrial agriculture, he made a radical choice.

Over two decades later, Luke’s journey has grown from organic production into a much bigger vision for ecological renewal.

But Luke knows that a vision of this scale cannot be achieved by one farmer alone.

For him, regeneration is about collaboration, building a community and a movement of people who believe in regenerative stewardship.

That belief is also what brought Luke to apply for @top50farmers.

Being part of a community of farmers actively pushing for positive change gives Luke the opportunity to connect with others, share ideas and contribute to a wider movement for change in agriculture.

You can probably name your favourite chef. But could you name a farmer who inspires you? For many of us, that question is harder to answer.

And that tells us something about the relationship we have with our food.

We know the brands. We know the supermarkets. We know the chefs.

But the people who grow our food often remain invisible.

Behind every meal are farmers making decisions about soil, water, biodiversity, animals, crops and the communities around them.

It’s time we knew more of the people behind our food, and recognised the vital role they play in shaping its future.
