7 years after launching Topiku, it is unreal to witness our hats be part of such a historic moment. Biden & Jokowi just announced a $20 billion climate finance deal to help Indonesia move away from coal!

To witness world leaders wearing our hats as they plant trees in a mangrove forest is a memory our team will cherish forever.

We’re as energized as ever to keep playing our part and delivering you the world’s most sustainable hats.

Not all certifications mean the same thing.

B Corp. The Climate Label. 1% for the Planet. 🌱

Each covers a different part of our sustainability work, from how we operate, to carbon offsets, to environmental giving.

But none tell the full story of how a hat is made.
That’s why we believe the better questions are: Who made it? Where? From what? And under what conditions?

Because transparency goes beyond a logo.

What if the people already exploring the world’s hardest-to-reach places could collect the data conservationists need?

Founded by Gregg Treinish in 2011, Adventure Scientists trains outdoor volunteers to collect research-grade data from remote environments — from mountain forests to rivers and coral reefs.

Through the Topiku Changemakers Program, we support their field teams with hats made for the same conditions they work in: outdoors, changing weather, and long days in the field.

Some fabric that arrives for our hats isn’t right for hats. Instead of letting it go to waste, we took the leftovers across the street to Cigondewah’s bag district in Bandung.

Through Rian of Esduabelas, we met Pak Roni, who runs a bag workshop in the district. Together, we explored what these leftover materials could become.

The result: one sample tote, made from fabric that couldn’t become a hat.

It’s not a product yet. Just one sample, one new artisan relationship, and a clearer picture of what set-aside material can become. by @topiku.co

Making the LYFER Hat.

LYFER is a Melbourne-based brand built around birding as a lifestyle, with 5–10% of every purchase going towards bird conservation.

For their headwear collection, they partnered with Topiku to bring that same sense of purpose into the making process.

From aligning panels and the brim to stitching, finishing, and hand inspection, every LYFER Hat comes together with care at Esduabelas in Desa Rahayu.

One sewing centre. One woman named Lucy. One opportunity to create dignified work.

That story grew into @goexapparel , a certified B Corp producing ethically made apparel in Haiti today.

We’re proud to partner with brands like GOEX where the values behind the products are just as important as the products themselves.

Ep.2 of Slow Fashion: Ethically Made Hats and The Women Who Make Them in Rahayu.

When we visited the Esduabelas workshop in Desa Rahayu this July, we asked Tipa & Ayu what keeps them here. Their answer came down to something simple: the way they work.

No one pushes them to work faster. They have space to do their craft, at their own pace, alongside a team they’ve grown with.

Here’s a look inside the workshop and what makes Tipa, Ayu, and the team stay. 🧢 by @topiku.co

Tipa has been part of the artisan team that makes our hats for five years. Ayu for three. When we visited esduabelas workshop in Desa Rahayu in July 2026, they told us the same thing: nobody pushes them to work fast. Here is what that looks like from the inside, and why the team is built the way it is.

“Sustainable” is one of the most used, least defined words in merch.

Here’s what actually separates a genuinely sustainable baseball hat from one that just uses the term, materials, durability, traceability, and order size. by @topiku.co

We don’t love offset claims that feel abstract. So we picked a partner whose numbers are both verified and visible.

Topiku purchased 58 tons of Verra-certified carbon credits through SeaTrees and that purchase also means 58 mangrove trees now growing on the Kenyan coast, tracked over a 10-year period.

Reduction comes first for us. But getting to carbon negative means funding real removal too. This is what that looks like.

The most common question we get: “How long does this take?”
The honest answer depends on what you’re making, how complex it is, and how you want it shipped. Here’s a straight breakdown of our three programs and what affects your timeline.

Three founders. 1,200km. 58 days. One goal: keep plastic out of the ocean.

Sungai Watch’s Gary, Kelly, and Sam are running from Bali to Jakarta right now and every $1 donated removes 1 kg of plastic from Indonesia’s rivers before it reaches the sea. We’ve donated $1,000 USD to the campaign. We’re sharing this so other brands do the same.
