I’ve had the privilege to assist @revtoshi of @phiaro.inc taking delivery of his NISMO CRS Edition skyline GT-R. Taking in inventory of the car last summer and less than a year later, it’s been welcomed to a genuine man who intends to not only showcase the closest thing to a Z-Tune in a way that he sees fit but actually drive the car. To be the only California compliant NISMO CRS out of none other than @toprankimporters, that’s saying something.

Being around the car, moving it around, taking photos of it, meeting new people in that process including the phiaro team, I am blessed to say the least. I love this game, I just need to remember to not let it slip past me and keep my hands on the controller. Pick one…The A80 Supra and the Skyline GT-R became legends in two completely different ways. Toyota got the Supra so right from the start that it barely changed throughout its production, letting the 2JZ and the platform speak for themselves. Both retained their engines the 2JZ and RB26 through out…but the Supra started with the legendary Getrag transmission in 1993 while the GT-R didn’t adopt it until the R34 in 1999. The Supra went on to build its own racing legacy, while the road car stayed fundamentally the same. Nissan took the opposite approach, constantly evolving the GT-R from the R32 to the R33 to the R34, with each generation refining the chassis, electronics, and driving experience through lessons learned on and off the track. One perfected a formula. The other never stopped chasing the next version of it.

Here’s the part that always surprises people: Toyota built around 18,700 turbo A80 Supras, while Nissan built 72,183 GT-Rs across the R32, R33, and R34, that’s almost 4 GT-Rs for every turbo Supra. Yet the Supra somehow feels more common, probably because of The Fast and the Furious, the 2JZ, and how big it became in the U.S. The GT-R mostly stayed in Japan and its production was split across three generations. So what’s the better approach: build one platform so good it barely needs to change, or keep evolving it every few years?

Super fortunate to own them all and to be able to race a GT-R like it was intended… but it’s hard to say what’s “better” because they while they share a lot they are so completely different. #jdm #supra #gtr #2jz #rb26 by @toprankimporters

It was an absolute pleasure to finally photograph BBL’s Yamabuki Yellow R34 together with its owner, Andrew. This is a car I’ve admired for years, and seeing it completed in person made the shoot feel even more special.

Over the past few years, I’ve been following the journey of this build and patiently waiting for the day when it would finally be finished. Watching every detail come together made it incredibly rewarding to capture the car through my own lens.

Before the R34 begins its next chapter in the United States, I’m grateful that we had one last opportunity to photograph it here in Japan. Both on the streets and at the circuit. A fitting farewell to an unforgettable machine, and a day I’ll remember for a long time.

One of my favorite things about Tokyo is the random non-stop car spotting. I can't whip my phone out fast enough for some of the cars that appear on a regular basis. Sometimes I'm getting my steps in during my daily walk and I come across some incredible gems.

That's kinda the best part about owning your own car in Japan, you can just go for random drives in the middle of the night with friends.
