A wedding in the Scottish Highlands, in the middle of a storm.

The plan was always to celebrate in a marquee beside the house where Max grew up, next to the loch where they got engaged. And even with the wind, the cold, and the rain rolling through Scotland that day, nothing about it felt ruined.

If anything, it made the atmosphere even better.

Everyone leaned into it: elegant outfits paired with wellies, drinks in hand, laughter carrying through the marquee while the fire kept everyone warm. Outside, the Highlands were wild and dramatic. Inside, it felt full of life.

A reminder that the people you invite to your wedding shape the entire feeling of the day.

Wedding in the Scottish Highlands on a stormy day.

The storm rolled in on their wedding day in the Scottish Highlands. Plans changed a few times, but they stuck with what mattered, a marquee by the loch, on the farm Max grew up on.
It was cold and a bit unpredictable, but they kept their expectations simple. Just be together. Enjoy it for what it is. And honestly, the guests made it. The kind of people who don’t mind a bit of wind or rain. Who just go with it. That’s what made the day - not the weather, just everyone showing up the way they did.

Northern Rail thought it was another late train journey….Top Tier had other ideas! 🎺🥁🎷The couple thought they were simply hopping on the train on the way to their legal ceremony… meanwhile, we’d secretly boarded and were waiting for the perfect moment.

Then the brass started playing. 🎺🔥

A completely unexpected wedding surprise, right in the middle of a Northern Rail carriage, and one hell of a way to start the wedding day.

M&D’s chose @thevenuebowersmill for their wedding party on Saturday after having a low-key ceremony in Leeds the weekend before.

In their own words… Guests will arrive, we’ll have some pizza and drinks, a few speeches then dance the rest of the night away! And they did just that with @toptierbrass performing as a surprise for their guests, followed by some classic emo tunes and rave dance numbers courtesy of @defcityevents.

I absolutely love a laid-back event like this where the main focus is just having a great time surrounded by friends and family.

When I asked why they chose me to be their photographer (as well as being recommended by The Venue) they said:

‘We loved the colour and vibrancy of your portfolio! All the photos looked fun, intimate and had a realness to them compared to other photographers styles. We think it’ll fit perfectly for the vibes of our party!’

Sarah & Huw 🥂✨

This one was SO much fun.

A completely DIY wedding at home, with a relaxed, intimate ceremony in their garden, a stretch tent for the celebrations and what felt like an endless supply of champagne and espresso martinis.

So much of the day had been made and put together by Sarah & Huw themselves, and with Sarah being such a talented artist, there were gorgeous handmade details everywhere. Nothing felt overly formal or staged, just colourful, personal, relaxed and completely them.

Confetti in the garden, beautiful flowers, Sarah’s incredible gold dress, champagne flowing and Top Tier Brass absolutely bringing the party later on… exactly how a wedding at home should be.

I LOVE photographing weddings like this. Days where people forget about the camera, do things their own way and just have the best bloody time.

Wedding in the Scottish Highlands, where the weather really gave us everything it had.

It’s been a few months and I still remember this one so well: rain, wind, cold, snow. At some point I think we had all four at once. And somehow… nobody cared. Liv and Max were having the best time, the guests were having the best time, drinks were flowing, everyone was laughing and dancing, and eventually they decided they didn’t even want to leave the marquee for the next part of the day. This wedding really was proof that the weather matters much less than the people you surround yourself with.
Although maybe pack a warm coat if you’re getting married in the Highlands. And a pair of proper wellies.

Not every wedding gets perfect weather. This one had wind, rain, cold and even a little snow. And yet, it’s one of the warmest weddings I’ve ever photographed. Friends gathered around the fire, pints in hand, muddy shoes, windswept hair and a marquee full of laughter.
Max and Liv were married on the land where they got engaged, surrounded by the people who matter most. Proof that the atmosphere of a wedding has very little to do with the weather.
