P.S. Parshurameswara Temple is one of the oldest existing temples in the state. It is believed to have been built around 650 CE and is one of the earliest Kalingan style temple architecture.

The sculpture in this image is of Lakulisha.

ଲକୁଳିଶ/Lakulisha/लकुलीश (meaning; the lord with a staff or mace or club or stick) was a prominent Shaivait revivalist, reformist and preceptor of the doctrine of the Pasupatas, one of the oldest sects of Shaivism.

Though according to some scholars, Lakulisha is the founder of the Pashupata sect, some argues that the Pashupata doctrine was already in existence before. Lakulisha, and he was only its first formal preceptor.

Shiv Sundar Das 🏏🏆🫡❤️🇮🇳

Shiv Sundar Das is one of Odisha’s finest cricketing stories—yet one that never got the opportunities it deserved.

He played 23 Tests for India, scoring 1,326 runs, including two centuries. But after a short international career, he was dropped and never got another Test opportunity. His ODI career was limited to just four matches.

Despite scoring over 10,000 first-class runs, his journey at the international level remained surprisingly brief.

Sometimes, talent is not the only thing that decides how far a player goes. Timing, competition and opportunities matter too.

Shiv Sundar Das may not have played enough for India, but he will always remain a proud chapter of Odisha cricket. 🏏❤️

Debasis Mohanty — a name from Odisha that made it to Team India. 🇮🇳🏏

Some stories in Indian cricket are not about how far a player went…
But about how much more he could have achieved. ❤️🏏

Debasis Mohanty — a proud son of Odisha and one of the first cricketers from the state to represent India.

He made his international debut in 1997 and went on to play 2 Tests and 45 ODIs for India, taking 57 ODI wickets. He was also part of India’s 1999 World Cup campaign, where he was among India’s leading wicket-takers.

But his journey was never a smooth one.💔

Despite showing his ability at the highest level, opportunities came and went. He was often in and out of the Indian side, and after a strong period around the 1999 World Cup, his chances became limited as competition for places increased.

And perhaps that is what makes his story so emotional.

A bowler who had the ability to play more…
a career that could have had many more chapters…
and a name that deserved to be remembered.

From the cricket grounds of Odisha to the Indian dressing room, Debasis Mohanty carried the hopes of an entire state on his shoulders.

He may not have got as many opportunities as his talent deserved,
but for Odisha, he will always be one of our pioneers. ❤️
