“TORIENA only gets attention because she’s a college girl making music on a Game Boy, right?” I hated hearing things like that more than anything. I genuinely loved the Game Boy. It felt completely natural to me as an instrument, and I loved making music with it. But I always believed that wasn’t the only reason people paid attention to me. I believed there was something genuinely good in the music I was making. And I wanted to prove it. Rebranding yourself without changing your name, once people already have a fixed image of who you are, is harder than starting from zero. I never wanted to erase my past. I rebranded because I wanted to stand on my own as TORIENA — for who I really am, at my core, and for what’s actually inside me. So the TORIENA of the past, the TORIENA of today, and the TORIENA of the future — they’re all real. They’re all genuine. And they’re all right. 「TORIENAが注目されてるのって、現役女子大生でゲームボーイで曲作ってるからでしょ？」 みたいに言われるのが、一番嫌だった。 ゲームボーイは本当に相性が良くて、大好きだった。 でも、私が注目されたのはそれだけじゃなくて、 ちゃんと作っているもの自体に良さがあるからだって信じてたし、証明したかった。 一度ついたイメージを、 名前を変えずにリブランディングするのは、 ゼロから始めるより大変だった。 過去を無かったことにしたかったわけじゃない。 本当の、本質の、中身のTORIENAで 勝負したかったからリブランディングした。 だから、 過去も現在も未来も、 全部のTORIENAが本物で、リアルで、 全部正解だと思ってる。 #toriena #music by @toriena
