Yesterday, my beautiful girl crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She has been my best friend for the past 17 years. I was 11 years old when my brother showed up with that sweet but terrified kitten. She was with me through so many milestones, wins, losses, and heartache.

Her name might have been Sweetie, but she was the sassiest, fiercest, take no BS kitty you’d ever meet.

There’s so much I’m going to miss. I’m so lucky to have gotten as much time with her as I did, but it will never be enough.

Last night was the opening for the Appalachia Beautiful exhibit. This project has been a honor to be apart of. Never in a million years did I think I would see my photograph on a gallery wall next to so many other strong amazing women.

There was a time in my life I was ashamed of where I’m from but that’s not the case anymore. We are so much more than the stereotypes the world reduces us too.

I was raised by strong and gritty Appalachian women. My mamaw, my mother, my aunts. I am who I am today because of Appalachian women and I am damn proud of that.

I’m very happy to share that May 2025 is officially Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders Awareness Month in the state of Kentucky! A big thank you to the Ehlers-Danlos Society for helping me draft this proclamation.

I also want to express my sincere gratitude to Governor Andy Beshear for approving the proclamation and recognizing May 2025 as EDS & HSD Awareness Month. This will bring much-needed attention to these conditions and help Kentuckians who, like myself, deal with them daily. Your support is truly appreciated and invaluable.

This is a cause near and dear to my heart. These conditions have completely changed the trajectory of my life. It took years for me to find answers, and while it’s still an ongoing struggle to find care, this is a step in the right direction. 🦓 #ehlersdanlosawareness by @torigrace_16
