MEET THE TASTEMAKER: Tori Mellott, Tuckernuck’s Creative Director of Home will be in Darien at the Meadowlands at the DCA October 6th.

Every design-obsessed adult was once a design-obsessed kid. For @torimellott, that meant rearranging furniture, sketching rooms, and curating her Laura Ashley bedding with real conviction.

She grew up in a tiny town north of Pittsburgh and cycled through majors at Penn State: theater, then fine arts, then art history. A transfer to NYU led to an internship at the late, great HomeStyle under legendary editor Suzy Slesin. One taste of shelter magazines and she was hooked.

What followed reads like a masthead hall of fame: House Beautiful, ELLE DECOR, Domino, and Traditional Home, plus a turn in television on The Nate Berkus Show. She later crossed to the brand side as Style Director at Schumacher and Frederic. Today she is Creative Director of Home at @tuckernuck which has a planned opening in Darien in 2027.

This Tuesday, October 6, Mellott moderates a lively conversation on The Thrill of the Hunt with Peter Dunham, Ben Reynaert, and Alexander Widener at The Design Social Pop-Up at @dariendca, 5 to 8 pm. Expect great interior design intel from people who know.

PLUS: Wednesday, October 7 from 9AM to 5PM meet and shop with more than 33 creatives and artists behind some of the most respected boutique textile, wallpaper and home product brands in the US and the UK.

When you think of a "luxury" purchase, a flashy label and high price tag are likely what first comes to mind. But for these design and retail professionals, that perception largely misses the point. During a conversation on the evolving world of luxury at @nantucketbydesign, panelists @torimellott of @tuckernuck and @nancymsoriano of @perigold agreed that luxury is rooted in rarity.
When anything can be "duped," does a high price tag alone mean anything anymore? As consumers become more educated on quality and craftsmanship, it sounds like handmade is becoming the new status symbol 💸. by @torimellott

As AI seeps into creative fields, even the experts have trouble distinguishing "real" from "AI-generated." For @torimellott, Creative Director of Home at @tuckernuck and designer Austin Handler of @mableyhandler, their default reaction is often to assume what they're seeing isn't "real." Does that mean that "human-made" is becoming a rarity? by @torimellott

The Apartment series is back at @thegalleryat200lex. We sat down with @torimellott, Creative Director of Home for @tuckernuck to describe her process and inspiration for this beautiful vignette.

Featuring pieces from The Gallery floor paired with Tuckernuck’s home collection, all invoking the feeling of a Summer in France.

Keep an eye out for the next Apartment series vignette. taken in The Gallery at 200 Lex by @torimellott

I was researching some Murano glass from the 20’s (although I think the pieces on the first slide are more current) and I was struck by how much the shapes and forms reminded me of the costumes for Bahaus member, Oskar Schlemmer’s, ‘Triadic Ballet.’ by @torimellott

I’ve made up so many stories in my head about the people who owned these chairs and their fate. Obviously, the most logical story is that the chairs belonged to an elderly couple who died within months of one other because they couldn’t bear to be separated. Their soulless children threw out their beloved easy chairs with nary the bat of an eye or the tug of a heartstring. The chairs will soon greet them in heaven where they can once again sit next to each other, holding hands, and watching all their favorite shows until they fade off to sleep. by @torimellott
