I'm bricking it posting this... but 250 of you after only 5 days here?! I'm a bit overwhelmed, so I thought it was time to show my face 🙈

Hi, I'm Tori 👋🏻

After years away from fantasy (Harry Potter, then Twilight, TVD and True Blood) and mostly reading psychological thrillers and crime fiction, I picked up a little book called ACOTAR about 18 months ago. It turned out to be a gateway drug into romantasy, and I accidentally joined a cult 👀

Thank you so much for following. I love how welcoming this community is ❤️ and that I can share my love of books and get more recs (though my TBR and bank balance wouldn't agree 🤣)

After nearly a week on bookstagram, here's my very first review 📖 Think of it as my book journal: mostly for me, but you're very welcome to read along!

The Washwoman at the River's End by @meganshadeauthor ⭐ 4.5/5
(Curse of the Fates, Book One)

Instantly gripped. That's it, that's the review. (Kidding, keep reading 👇)

They call her a monster. A murderer. A myth. She's been sent down to the river as punishment, to wash the clothes of people as they die. And the man sent to watch her, and then kill her? The one whose love she murdered. 😳

What I loved:
🌊 The writing. Almost poetic, and it pulled me straight in
🌊 A slow, satisfying build, and character development that really earns it
🌊 It's a bit different from most romantasy out there
🌊 The Scottish setting and folklore

One tiny niggle: the dialect was lovely at first but got a bit much for me by the end.

Spice 🌶️: Low, but it sneaks up on you! Just a heads up, because after all that poetic yearning I wasn't expecting it 😂

Confession: I picked it for a day out because I thought it was a standalone. It's not! And I'm so chuffed, because I need to know what happens next.

Thank you to @chelsea.v.reads and everyone else on here who wouldn't stop talking about it. You were right.

My ACOTAR 6 theories, two weeks out and the suspense is killing me 😱

1. Kaltain is the Suriel.
2. Azriel's shadows aren't his. They're something much older, with an agenda of their own.
3. Eris has been the good guy all along, and we've all been too busy hating him to notice. 🍂

Mine's Velaris, obviously, with a view from the House of Wind. I'd be stepping through without a second thought. But I chose this video for its serious autumn cosy vibes, so maybe a quick detour via the Autumn Court first 🍂 (Eris, I'm still defending you.)

Happy Monday! Solo spa day? Go on then. 🧖‍♀️

As my cup says, I'm a certified booktrovert 🥰 Love a day to myself to just immerse myself in a book, no talking required. Earphones in to drown out the chatter of people rudely enjoying themselves 🙄😂

Kindle for a change (no soggy page edges on my precious books 💦), so I've paused From Blood and Ash to try The Washwoman at the River's End by @meganshadeauthor , recommended by @chelsea.v.reads (love following you, but my TBR is suffering 😂)

Thought it was a standalone… turns out I've inadvertently started yet another series 🙈

Periods 🩸 are shit. Honestly one of the hardest things about being a woman. Probably TMI for my third Instagram post, but… welcome to me! 🤷🏻‍♀️

After three kids, you'd think they'd have got easier… ha!

My wonderful husband has taken the kids out while I mope at home. On the upside: blanket, fantasy ambience on the TV, my furry reading buddy, and starting book 3 (A Blood and Ash series). 📖🐶❤️

Anyone else? 🙋‍♀️

A quick 30 minutes in the car (parked!) between errands and kids' clubs. Coffee shops are too noisy, and of course I forgot my earphones.

With lots of background noise, I can't "hear" the words. Some days, even gentle music is too distracting.

Today, a romantasy playlist on low is just about working, while the sky in Chapter 34 is literally on fire. 🔥

Can you read through background chatter, or do you need quiet, or even total silence?
