Toronto legend Glenn Lewis is back with his first single in nearly a decade.

The Grammy-nominated R&B singer has released a new track titled Past Tense, marking a return from one of the most recognizable soul voices to come out of the city.

Lewis first made noise in Toronto’s early 2000’s R&B scene. His 1998 single “Bout Your Love”, became an early underground favourite and earned a Juno Award nomination for Best R&B/Soul Recording — putting the industry on notice that Toronto had a serious new voice.

That momentum carried into the early 2000s when Don’t You Forget It, from his debut album World Outside My Window, exploded in the U.S. The video famously held the #1 spot on BET’s 106 & Park for multiple weeks, cementing Lewis as one of the era’s standout R&B voices.

Now with Past Tense, the Toronto legend returns — and industry whispers suggest this may just be the beginning, with rumours circulating that a new album could be in the works.

Canada Post has released commemorative stamps during Black History Month recognizing two foundational Black voices in Canadian hip-hop: Maestro Fresh Wes and Michie Mee.

Maestro Fresh Wes is widely recognized as the first Canadian rapper to successfully cross into the United States market, helping establish international visibility for Canadian hip-hop, while also pushing the genre into the Canadian mainstream.

Michie Mee was instrumental in shaping the Toronto sound by blending rap with dancehall and reggae influences, helping define the cultural crossover that became part of Canada’s musical identity. American rap legend KRS-One was said to be heavily influenced by the Canadian rappers fusion of genres, first utilizing it in his classic diss record “The Bridge Is Over”.

The release highlights the impact of Black artists on Canadian music history and their role in shaping the country’s cultural landscape.

The Raptors acquire 25-year-old big man Trayce Jackson-Davis in a trade with Golden State for a future second-round pick. The former Indiana University star, originally from Greenwood, Indiana, is known for his motor, rim protection, and some finishing around the basket.

Toronto adds much needed size, interior defence, and paint presence to the front court.

Simon “The One” Marcus — a living legend in Canadian combat sports — headlines Unified 66 in #Toronto at Rebel Complex with a welterweight title fight on the line.

Marcus isn’t just another name on a poster — he’s one of the most decorated strikers Canada has ever produced. Before stepping into MMA, he built a career as a multiple‑time world champion in Muay Thai and kickboxing, including reigns as GLORY middleweight champion and victories over elite global competition.

Since 2021, he’s quietly carved out a perfect start in professional MMA, proving his discipline and power translate inside the cage. Now, at #Unified66 on February 20, 2026, Marcus will collide with Bobby Poulter for the welterweight title in front of a hometown crowd — a rare championship moment for a Toronto icon.

Tickets go on sale Friday, December 19th, and fans around the world can stream the action live on #UFC Fight Pass — a bridge between grassroots MMA and the global fight stage.

With news of a joint venture valuing his pre‑2025 music catalogue at nearly $1 billion USD, The Weeknd has crossed a threshold no Black Canadian recording artist has ever come close to. If the valuation holds, it would make Tesfaye — on paper — the first Black Canadian artist to reach billionaire status through music alone.

This wasn’t a catalogue fire sale. Tesfaye didn’t cash out and walk away. The deal with Lyric Capital keeps him in control — creative authority intact, future work untouched, ownership preserved. He leveraged his past without surrendering his future, a maneuver still rare in an industry built on artists giving both away.

The irony is hard to miss. Fifteen years ago, Tesfaye was homeless in Toronto, sleeping wherever he could, uploading songs anonymously to the internet. Today, his work is being valued at a level reserved for legacy acts decades older — Queen, Springsteen, Dylan — artists once considered untouchable.

Whether or not the billion ultimately lands on a balance sheet, the shift has already happened. The valuation alone places him in territory no Canadian artist — and certainly no Black Canadian artist — has ever occupied.

This isn’t just a personal milestone. It’s a quiet but seismic recalibration of who gets to own power in the music business, and how.

The Toronto Tempo have just dropped their inaugural jerseys — and the city is weighing in.

As Canada’s first WNBA franchise gears up for its 2026 debut, fans got their first official look at the home and away kits. The design? Sleek, modern, undeniably Tempo — but not without controversy.

Many fans are voicing frustration online over the oversized CIBC sponsor logo, which some feel dominates the jersey’s clean aesthetic and waters down what could’ve been a bold launch moment.

Still, for Toronto hoops culture, this is a milestone. The reveal puts a stamp on the city’s growing impact on the women’s game — and whether you love them or not, these jerseys are already doing what they’re supposed to: getting people talking.

What are your thoughts?

The Office Movers is making the leap to Netflix — Season 1 will be available on Netflix Canada starting December 18. The comedy, created by brothers Jae and Trey Richards, follows Everett and Eric Saunders as they try to turn around their dysfunctional office‑moving company and finally sell the business so they “never have to move furniture again.” The series is rooted in the duo’s real experiences with their father’s moving company.

The show has already built momentum through its Crave run and early buzz — including a renewal for Season 3 — but it’s still unclear whether The Office Movers will stream on Netflix in the U.S.

On “Bouquet,” a standout off his new DJ Premier–produced album Light Years, #Nas delivers a quick but potent name-drop: Michie Mee — a pioneer who put Toronto on the hip-hop map long before it had industry backing or global spotlight.

Michie wasn’t just first in line — she opened the door. The first Canadian rapper signed to a major U.S. label. A Scarborough-raised, Jamaican-born artist who blended dancehall, hip-hop, and street poetics before the city had an identity of its own. For Nas to mention her now, in 2025, is less nostalgia and more recognition — a subtle but powerful nod to the ones who built without a blueprint.

That single bar has reignited conversations around her legacy — and what may come next. Industry sources say Michie Mee is rumoured to be quietly working on a new album, with eyes on a 2026 release. If that’s true, it would mark a rare moment of full-circle visibility for Canadian hip-hop — with one of its architects stepping forward at a time when the world is finally paying attention.

On June 12, 2026, Canada will open the men’s FIFA World Cup — the first time the country has ever hosted a match at this level.

The opponent will come out of UEFA’s Playoff Path A — one of Italy, Wales, Bosnia, or Northern Ireland.

But Canada’s starting eleven may be missing some familiar faces.
Moïse Bombito is out with a fractured tibia.
Alistair Johnston’s return is still uncertain.
Alphonso Davies is recovering from ACL rehab and working against the clock.

Toronto will host six matches throughout the tournament, including a knockout round. But this one sets the tone. It’s not just the start of a tournament — it’s the start of something else.

A new expectation. A new presence.

This is Canada’s moment. Let’s see what we do with it.
