Our visit to the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve @idahodarksky did not disappoint! We took an early drive up on a Saturday to stake out a @recreation_gov tent spot at Sunny Gulch Campground, grabbed an amazing breakfast at @stanleybakingco and then took an afternoon breather at the @mountainvillage_resort hot springs before heading to @redfishlakelodge for an awesome dinner.

We woke up at midnight to drive up to Galena Summit to see the stars, but had to avoid hitting 100’s of mule and white-tail deer that were roaming in the dark. They’re EVERYWHERE out there at night and it’s pitch black, so you don’t see them till the last second when you’re driving.

We packed up the next morning and headed out to get the BEST shakes at @smileycrk.lodge where @hjalovejoy got a huckleberry malt. Then we headed into Ketchum where we had a great brunch at @whiskeysonmain and spent the rest of our time checking out the cute little town and the resort at @sunvalley before heading home.

I can’t recommend the trip from Stanley to Ketchum enough. If you’re ever looking for a great weekend adventure in Idaho, this is it. taken in Stanley, Idaho by @torster

I saw the @cirquedusoleil production of Alegria last Friday in Sacramento. It was almost impossible to describe.

There were aerialists flying around, doing Olympic-level flips, falling from 4-5 stories up, and dudes running around lighting things on fire. There was a crazy person riding around a massive steel ring, people doing backflips onto poles, and trapeze artists that looked like a Depeche Mode cover band.

One of the coolest things was the blizzard that erupted out of a suitcase and blew a 40mph snowstorm right into the audience.

Highly recommended. If you have the chance to catch Alegria while it’s at Raley Field through August, you should definitely go… taken in West Sacramento, California by @torster

I did some counting and apparently I visited 14 states in April. Lynchburg was one of my stops. Here’s some interesting facts about Jack Daniel’s Distillery and the area...

The entire Jack Daniel’s Distillery is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was the first distillery in the country to be designated as such.

The region is completely dry. There are only two places you can sample or buy adult beverages in the entire county. Both are at the end of the tour. You cannot buy alcohol anywhere else in Lynchburg.

Because the county is dry, the historic little town square is extremely clean…and very quiet. 😂

They make 1/2 millions bottles per day. California consumes more Jack Daniel’s than all other states combined.

Jack Daniel’s gets its distinct flavor because every drop is filtered through charcoal fired on the premises. There are two employees who’s sole job it is to make charcoal year round. It takes two full days for a single drop of Jack Daniel’s to filter its way down feet upon feet of charcoal. The charcoal lasts about 6-12 months and then is recycled into charcoal you can use in your barbecue.

Jack Daniel’s house is still on the property. The tour includes a walkthrough of the house which still includes the massive safe that ultimately led to his death.

Every employee of Jack Daniel’s gets a bottle on payday. Historically, no one ever calls in sick on payday. 😂

Jack Daniel’s was the favorite drink of Frank Sinatra who would famously play on stage holding a glass. His recipe was 3-2-1…three fingers of Jack, two ice cubes, and one splash of water.

Lunch was served down the street in the historical home of Mary Bobo. She was vehemently anti-alcohol in her home, yet was a staunch supporter of the distillery and the employees.

Jack Daniel’s put an ad in @playboy Magazine when she turned 99 soliciting birthday greetings. She apparently received over 8000 cards and 36 birthday cakes. To this day, Mary is the oldest woman to ever have her photograph featured in the magazine. Running the boarding house since 1908, she lived to the age of 103.

We have extraordinary personal liberties as Americans. The idea that you can hop on a plane and wake up in another part of the country never ceases to amaze me.

I am thankful to every person who chose to enter a career where there’s a chance that coming home at night might not happen. Whether it’s military, police fire, EMS, or our ER personnel…these people embody what it means to be “selfless.” They truly do represent a “thin line” between a civil society and what could otherwise be a banana republic.

And thank you to those that continue to speak up on behalf of our inalienable rights. They are more fragile than you think and they should not be subject to the whims of our enemies—both foreign AND domestic. #freedomisntfree 🇺🇸🇺🇸 taken in Chicago, Illinois by @torster
