Please scroll through to the end to see a few photos and a couple of quick clips that I'm sure will bring a smile to your face for this Sunday's Lucyfact. As you can see from the cover pic, Lucy still naps on her 'pompom' paw, which has its own Lucyfact (# 3) about how it came to be called the 'pompom' paw. Lucy almost always naps on this paw, whether she's on the catio, the fridge, and particularly when on her yellow bin. LUCYFACT # 49 is that Lucy has a power nap dance. πŸ’ƒπŸ’€ It's so cute! The dance varies a little each time, but she always puts on a little 'performance' to get herself just comfy and in the right position for her pompom paw power nap. Although it's summer for many, we're sharing a winter LUCYFACT from Australia. (See LUCYFACT below.) Winter for us means that sunseeking torties climb as close to the sun as possible and soak up every last minute of rays on the furthest corner of the catio roof. Against a bleak sky, this made a lovely picture to post for you. Winter also means that the tourists who come up to our lake and beaches from Sydney now scramble home before dark, and I'm left walking the dogs with the whole place to myself. The other evening, I captured two peaceful moments to share with you. One of the things I love about IG is not only the great friends I've made and getting to see your beautiful furbabies, but also seeing things that you experience that are so different from my life. Squirrels, bears, skunks, deer, cherry blossoms, snow, and frozen lakes are something that aren't a part of my life otherwise. So, for those who've never seen a pelican bobbing on the water as the tide comes in bringing fish with it, I thought you might enjoy these clips. The first is a solitary pelican who broke away from the others. Although the water may look murky, it's actually crystal clear, and what you're seeing is the sand that children were playing on only hours before. The second clip is just a few seconds of a flock riding the waves where they crash ashore. I hope you enjoy these beauties. LUCYFACT # 48 is that Lucy has to have her winter cat cave padded to fit. Starting in June, all four cats love their cat cave/igloos. With the soft, thick cave touching their fur all around, Leroy, Lochie, and Lacey warm up very quickly. When little Lucy curls up, only one side touches her, and it's not very warm at all. So I pad out half the cave with a plush blanket, warm up a wheat pack in the microwave, and tuck it in the outside layer of the blanket. Lucy then has about half the space as before. She loves it and presses up against the heat pack. She'll stay there for hours, keeping warm in her tiny space, soggy and sleepy. Her siblings won't even put their head in, preferring the full-sized cat caves, as their body heat due to extra kilos is more than sufficient to keep them nicely warmed ❀️ by @tortoiseshell_lucy_

G'day friends, we're bringing you a LUCYFACT post for a terrific Sunday. Many of you will know this fact, so I'll elaborate on it, but for our newer friends, LUCYFACT # 47 is that Lucy is Australian πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Lucy and family live in the state of NSW, whose capital is Sydney. We're about 1.5 hrs north of Sydney in a quieter coastal area where many Sydneysiders spend holidays, weekends, or just the day for a slower pace. As we're in the Southern Hemisphere, our northern states are hot, and the southern states are cooler. NSW is about in the middle without a very cold winter and only major heatwaves during periods of summer, but otherwise, we're pretty cosy. Lucy loves our climate and only experiencing a handful of days each year in which she's unable to have garden time. Living close to the beach means we get some pretty massive storms, but Lucy even enjoys those. About five minutes in the other direction is a beautiful lake where I walk the dogs and take the sunset photos that many of you love. We rent our home, but because I'm on a Disability Pension, we're fortunate enough to be in a government subsidised home with a "99 year" rental option, and I reckon that'll do me 🫀 As the turnover rate in these housing areas is high, the housing companies like to encourage good tenants to stay and accordingly we have been able to add our amazing catio and the girls' room screen door, etc. Although the streets are rough, we've been able to make a little haven of our own, and it's a very short car ride to enjoy paradise with the dogs. Lucy was born for the Aussie lifestyle. She loves the sun, storms, and even a lick of Vegemite πŸ˜‹ If you'd like to tell people where you live in the comments, I think it'd be fun πŸ«‚ πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί 🐨 Today's pic used to be a headshot on the old grid size, so I thought I'd post it in full now. It's a favourite of mine and also our profile pic. I love it because it symbolises Lucy to me, sitting proud in her catio, her right paw stretched out (always the right paw) enjoying the sun. G'day, friends 🌺 It's not twins, it's me, Lucy, meowdelling my bikinis! 🀭 There have been so many fantastic beach parties already this year that mum made me a second bikini. So excellent! Mum says it's not as purrfessional as the amazing yellow cossie that Chloe and Oliver's mum made for me @oliver_chloesfurriendfeatures and @chloliver_twopurrfect but mum made this one by hand, with love. I think it's purrfect with a little hibiscus flower 🌺 on my head. Happy LUCYFACT Sunday fun day, friends 🎢 Lucy inspired me to write this particular LUCYFACT today, as I watched her enjoying such a simple thing. On a cold winter's day, when some friends are struggling to keep comfy due to heatwaves, and when the world seems in many ways to be getting more complicated and heavier, our furbabies are a reminder of what's important. I'm keeping it light and simple today, but still sending love to you all, as always, friends πŸ₯° LUCYFACT # 46 is that Lucy's favourite song is "A Million Dreams" from the movie "The Greatest Showman." Please turn on your sound as it's playing with this post. 🎡 🎢 🎡 I've never had a cat or dog who has a favourite song before, but Lucy is a never-ending gift with layers and layers of wrapping paper, and unwrapping each layer is a joy. The boys enjoy classical music (yes, those pesky brothers!), and I'm pretty sure one dog responds to country music, but nobody other than Lucy has a favourite song. She first heard "A Million Dreams" on Britain's Got Talent, and then while I was watching The Greatest Showman movie. Watching her reaction both times was better than watching the television. She flips, flops, rolls, and rubs everything in sight. It's delightful. It really is quite stirring music, and I smile at the words knowing how suitable they are, as I can imagine that Lucy does have "a million dreams" running through her head as she sleeps. As you all know, she's always a busy girl. She's since heard it ten times or so on IG, as we sit together while I visit posts and stories, responding every time and once nearly rolling off the table. Perhaps I should write to Hugh Jackman to let him know what a fan he has in her, and maybe ask him over for a cuppa, just for Lucy, of course. She'd really enjoy that, I'm sure. πŸ˜‰ Have a happy, fun Sunday, friends. If you hear Lucy's favourite song playing, think of us. Today's LUCYFACT Sunday post is presented by Lucy's beautiful big sister Lacey, the shy one of the family. Though very different, the two sisters love each other very much. LUCYFACT # 45 is that Lucy (and Lacey) have a special girls' room, no boys allowed! It used to be the spare room but was converted to a sanctuary for the girls with the addition of a security screen door. I found a door, removed the fly screen, spruced it up, and it's been helping keep the peace for years. When our Lochie joined the family, he was a wild boy who'd been through a lot. He often felt threatened for no reason and was in pain and discomfort due to skin allergies, from which he was nearly bald and covered in scabs. He'd lash out and attack, particularly if he even thought he was hungry. We didn't have Lucy then, but Lilly and Leroy learned to handle him. They bonded (with help from mum), but shy Lacey couldn't accept him. I worked out a system allowing them to avoid each other during the day, with separate shifts into the main bedroom and catio, or the rest of the house and garden. The system was successful, but in the evening, when we were all inside and Lacey wanted to curl up on the spare room bed, Lochie would sneak up on her. When Lucy was adopted, she instantly loved curling up with Lacey in the evenings, but although she loves Lochie, she felt the tension. I didn't want to close anyone in a room, and it became very stressful until the addition of the security screen door. With the door added, it's meant that the girls can have a peaceful slumber while still having full view of the rest of the house and without feeling locked in. I can still see them, too, and of course, I steal lots of kisses while they're curled up together. It's a great place to nap until bedtime, especially in winter when the bed is pre-warmed by the electric blanket! Lucy moves in and out with Lacey, but the girls' room is definitely a popular spot. With Lochie and Lacey able to sit together on either side of the screen, they're close to besties now, even playing pawsies, but the spare room remains the girls' room forever ❀️ Enjoy a fun day, friends.
