It's been a while since I've had a proper creative outlet.

I'm visiting different spaces, having conversations with the people behind the counter and the people sitting inside, and documenting the little things that make each place worth visiting.

The atmosphere.
The people.
The conversations.
The music.
The little things you might miss if you just grab your coffee and leave.

Think of it as a very small journal of places that exist somewhere between getting somewhere and simply being somewhere.

So, welcome to IN BETWEEN with Mandi.

No. 001 — Coffee Works, Tygerberg

A friend introduced me to Coffee Works when I was new to the area. I came back recently, this time alone, and sat outside with a cappuccino and a toasted chicken-and-mayo sourdough.

Coffee Works is a unique space. Part coffee shop, part bicycle shop, and somehow part community hub. The rustic furniture gives it character, while the bikes add a more modern, almost futuristic edge. Cyclists, runners, coffee lovers, regulars and everyone in between seem to find their way here.

While ordering, I started talking to the lovely Angel (I'm a yapper, I can't help it 😂). Anyway, I complimented her latte art. That led to her telling me how she learned by watching the baristas at a restaurant where she used to visit.

I won't lie, I was a little surprised it wasn't from a course or YouTube.

Just friends learning from each other.

That's the beautiful thing about community. There's so much we can learn from the people already around us.

Lately, when I see Cape Town losing third spaces, I'm reminded that it's not just a business that disappears. It's a space where people can find community, learn from one another, and maybe start great things together.

From a simple coffee visit, I left knowing a little more about making latte art, which cycling trails have the best views, and that's what I like about places like this.

The coffee gets you through the door.
The community gives you a reason to come back.

It's not just a business or a community hub.

It's somewhere in between. by @toruna_

The aim is not to sweat when dancing 😂

There's something about loafers!

Did you even ride if you don't get some dirt on you?

Anyway catch me if you can

Some Calm under a tree

Very refreshing place, I must say.

Her entire exhibition was a masterpiece.

It's not the place. It's the people.

Sneaking in a workout even though it was not in the plan for the day 😂

The eyes, they never lie

A hot cup of love to start the day 🤎

Until next time. Bye! 😉 by @toruna_
