SOUNDCLOUD OFFICE _BOARD ROOM

This was one of our favorite rooms in the SoundCloud office. SoundCloud wanted their board room to be a place they could take artists in for meetings and be able to chill and listen to music together. Less meeting, more listening/ lounging. We were inspired by Japanese HiFi listening bars and decided to design a wall that mimicked this style. We wanted true HiFi sound, so we installed @devonojas speakers and subs into our wall. The wall lights up with a soft glow and has spots to display records. We changed out the carpet to something darker, painted the walls a deep blue, put built in lounge benches in the windows , and designed a custom 22’ conference table. SWIPE FOR BEFORE SHOT!

Couldn’t have done this without the help of our fab shop @wizardstudiosevents ,our amazing install crew, and draftsman @megs_locations

THE BOOTH in action.

We love to see the creativity thrive in here. So many incredible artists have blessed our booth including Chance the Rapper, Annalise Azadian, R2R Moe and so many more. We’re excited to see who’s next. taken in Soundcloud by @torus.studio

SOUNDCLOUD OFFICE _ BULLPEN

We pulled back some of the excess desks in the bullpen to carve out lounge seating, creating spaces to step away from the desk and reset.

With a limited budget, the focus was impact. We color drenched the area in SoundCloud’s signature orange to shift the feel of the otherwise grey space.

We also built a signing wall for visiting artists. Sliding panels allow the wall to expand over time, and once filled, panels can be removed and installed elsewhere in the office.

Above it, their vision statement runs across the space, visible from nearly every angle.

Big thanks to @palermo.house for the perfect orange lounge chairs, light enough for employees to pick up and move around, but sturdy enough to function in a high use space.

From boring office to recording booth.

A glimpse behind our design and build for SoundCloud. This space was designed to function as a full recording studio within an active workplace.

Permitting, electrical issues , tight timelines…so many invisible parts that don’t make it into the video. But, we always make it work & the end result is always rewarding.

A peek behind the scenes of the weird stool build — long nights in the shop, foam dust everywhere, and a vision slowly taking shape. Every piece was carved by hand and finished in just a few weeks with the help of an incredible crew who gave it their all. Thanks again @ga.core & @visitthelab taken in Lamy, New Mexico by @torus.studio

When @visitthelab called asking us to design and build 35 weird looking barstools for colon cancer awareness, how could we say no? We sketched out 16 strange ideas, they picked 5, and then it was a sprint, carving each stool by hand in just a month.

It’s rare (and fun) when the brief is simply: make it weird. This project let us combine our love for furniture design, our obsession with the bizarre, and our fabrication know-how, all for a good cause.

Now these stools are living in bars across Georgia, sparking conversation and hopefully reminding people to get their colon checked. 💩💩💩

Thanks so much to @ga.core for trusting us with this project! taken in ATL by @torus.studio

SOUNDCLOUD OFFICE _CEO OFFICE

This was a completely empty office room, with amazing views of the Empire State Building. We wanted it to give an elevated NYC interior style, compared to the industrial and neon style of the rest of the office. Something that felt masculine and powerful, but also playful and cozy. A space for idea brainstorming, listening to music, and having meetings.
Rather than a traditional desk, the client wanted a large table, prime for collaborations. We couldn’t find exactly what we wanted for that. So we had @loewendesignstudios build a custom walnut square table for us. We picked furniture with earth tones and added lots of warm accent lighting, so the dreaded florescent fixtures above would never need to be turned on! We also added a wall of felt panels for sound absorption and to help make the room feel a little softer.
