letter T, with @toses_one.

a stem and a bar. top heavy, dead space sat under the bar and almost nothing to fill it with. the T belongs to the problem group with the F, J, L, P and V.

it's the only one of the six that got solved. the fat backward leaning stem and the short round bar everyone draws now aren't the T — they're fifty years of writers rebuilding it until it worked.

that's the whole reason it's a good letter.

the P stands on one foot. a stem, a bowl, and a hole underneath it — permanently top heavy, always threatening to fall over.

44% of them are the first letter. only 11% land at the end. put one in the middle of a name and it loses its stem to the letter in front, so you're left with a bowl floating over a gap.

that's the worst version of an already awkward letter.

the heaviest letter in the alphabet. four strokes — two outer stems and an apex — and no easier version to fall back on. you just have to draw it well.

over a third of all Ms sit first in the name, and a heavy letter at the front sets the weight for everything after it.

there's no dead space to solve either. the opposite problem — too much material, and knowing when to stop.

the R is a P with a leg added, and that leg fixes everything the P gets wrong.

it's also the only one in that family that goes anywhere. the B sits first 55% of the time, the D 53%, the P 44% — all crowded at the front because that's the only place they work. the R is first 19%, middle 54%, last 27%.

most positionally free letter in the alphabet. it works anywhere.
