In the 1960s, Amsterdam was a very different city than it is today. It faced severe congestion and air pollution caused by cars and heavy traffic. In this context, a movement was born: the Provos. The Provos, short for Provocateurs, advocated for a better city in which mobility was built around the bicycle rather than the car. They used posters, happenings, and performances to communicate their ideals and change how people thought and acted. Despite starting as an anarchist movement that favored direct action over representative democracy, they ran in Amsterdam’s municipal elections in 1966, winning a seat on the city council. This heavily influenced the city’s politics, helping to turn Amsterdam into the bicycle oriented city we know today.

This month's Critical Mass poster is an homage to the Provos and their courage to go against the current for a better future.

Critical Mass is a decentralized cycling event where large groups of riders gather to move through the city together, reclaiming streets typically dominated by cars. With no formal leadership or fixed route, it operates as both a celebration of collective movement and a quiet form of protest, asserting the bicycle as a valid, visible, and powerful mode of urban transport.

Thank you @massacriticaporto for the invitation and everyone that supports this cause.

Totality

Across cultures and throughout time, we have devised different ways to experience, represent, describe, and even predict the phenomena of eclipses in general, and total solar eclipses in particular. It told us when to go to war and when to wait for a new crop. It gave us good and bad luck, dictated the will of the gods, the mystic and the unexplainable, putting humans in an inferior realm. Sometimes an omen of something that would happen in the future, as well as a tool to mark cycles and epochs. But it also provided a way to understand the clockwork of our solar system and of the cosmos through scientific experiments. A mystic sign for religions, an inspiration for the arts and a tool for scientists. Total solar eclipses have been here long before humans walked the mountains and the valleys of our planet, and will probably outlast us in 600 million years, when the moon has drifted away enough for this spectacle to end.
To experience a total solar eclipse is to witness the universe, momentarily, looking back at itself.

+++++++++++++++++

To mark the upcoming total solar eclipse on the 12th of August 2026, I’ve made a limited edition of 30 handmade, bleached T-shirts featuring the technical information of the eclipse: latitude, longitude, duration, altitude above the horizon at the greatest point of the eclipse, among others.
In a way, it’s a celebration of our ability to predict these amazing events.

I'll also be publishing a small book with stories and fun facts about eclipses this September so keep your ears open for news.

If you're interested in acquiring one of these T-shirts please DM me.

Big thanks to everyone involved who had so much patience with my obsessions.

"That doesn’t mean we have to stop doing things. It does mean creating a new way of life based on play; in other words, a ludic revolution. By “play” I mean also festivity, creativity, conviviality, commensality, and maybe even art."
