I’m not letting @deltatroutforce out of #Mexico without exposing the truths of his brief 3 day visit. Danny has been a great and loyal friend for a long time, it’s been said we are evil twins. He has fished the beaches for many years, yet the true megalodon / leviathan #roosterfish eluded him. First day, first hour after 2 near misses - he surgically presents a new pattern of mine in the right path of the right fish, combs up follows 50’ and eats at his rod tip. I always say there is no higher high than catching a roosterfish from the sand, however one of this quality and size guided to your best buddy will go down as one of my favorite memories and top guiding achievements. Yes this is recent - just a few days ago. I haven’t been posting anything, the solace of being the only few there is what I need to survive. If I showed IG half of my photos I’d destroy this already threatened fishery. Keep it in your pocket, don’t be a spot burner or chase clout cuz you think IG will get you somewhere other than deported. 📸 @cwizz4 - thank you so much man - we are lucky f’n people. by @tothegills

Aldo from @thesoflypodcast put Emily @em_wis1109 in touch and luckily she swerved a hurricane to spend a few days fishing with me. I’ll admit, there couldn’t have been a better person to shut the season down with. Throws at anything, eager to learn yet can still put the fly wherever you ask her to. All I can say is, damn impressive, fancy work. She is equally happy looking at rocks, shells, plants, whatever other wildlife. Her first cast of the first day yielded a massive #roosterfish who unfortunately escaped us - then a #snook crashing bait that easily went 40”+, long fight, came off in the trough - I dove for the fish and would again. After all that she really turned up and basically pegged every odd species - enhancing those moves for the next episode. Thanks @aldopescatore and Emily, you f'n rock and I wish there were more of your kindness. #flyfishing #mexico by @tothegills

Very blind squirrel with a gigantic nut. I almost cried out of happiness and puked out of exhaustion. @tothegills you part roosterfish doggy.

The beaches of Baja are a special place, an ecosystem unlike anywhere else in the world. Here I get to enjoy a physically exhausting style of fishing to one of the coolest animals on the planet. Gigantic thanks to my good buddy, and long time Baja guide @tothegills for helping me make this happen. We stuck this fish from the beach, Tierra Firma, on a prototype fly Jeff had tied the night before.

I’ve been wanting this grande for over 15 years. The best fish of my life. And boy did I have to put my time in to make it happen but happy I never took the easy way out to achieve my goal by chumming. Don’t do that shit, it’s super lame and also very bad for the fishery. It is a short cut to success that cheapens the value of what a rooster fish actually is.

Privileged that over the years I have been able to learn from some of the OGs of the beach fishing game and to do it the only way it should be done. #tierrafirma! by @tothegills

Left the house early at the first opportunity of low wind to meet a shoal of #roosterfish scattering skipjack tuna on the sand. Trevor laid a fly directly in this fishes open mouth in less than 2’ of water. He boxed that thing quickly giving enough time for Erica to arrive with her camera and bottle of #tequila. Did I mention this was his first fish from the sand? So special to see her swim off strongly to ruin another life. Results of proper readiness. Saludos. #flyfishing #mexico #gallonon by @tothegills

Razor Surgeonfish (Cirujano) These things are incredibly difficult to feed, however I feel as if I’ve definitely cracked the code. They’re very tough, dirty fighters and if you grab their tail, you’ll likely be sliced to the bone. I love figuring out the fish that “don’t eat flies” after snorkeling around with them and tying all sorts of weird intricate flies - turns out they like one of the most simple, often looked down upon trout patterns. #flyfishing #bajamexico @rioproducts @sageflyfish @makoeyewear @cabelas by @tothegills
