The Lion King is back in Melbourne for the first time since 2015! 🦁

If your kids have been begging to see Simba, Timon and Pumbaa live on stage, this is the one to book.

The stage version has the same Elton John and Tim Rice songs your family knows from the film, so it’s a night the whole family can enjoy.

Disney’s The Lion King opens at the Regent Theatre on Thursday 25 March 2027.

With tickets now live, booking early is the easiest way to lock in the dates you want.

HOT Tips:
✅ The show runs about 2.5 hours including an interval and has theatrical smoke, strobe lighting and some violence.
✅ Make a night of it: the Regent is on Collins Street in the CBD, so plan dinner and a toilet stop before the show.

First ride in 5 years: the Melbourne Star is back ⭐

The Melbourne Star reopens Thursday 15 October, and it’s a great new outing for the kids if you’ve never been!

Take a 30-minute ride 120 metres above the city in an enclosed, climate-controlled glass cabin, with views of the skyline, the bay and Melbourne’s iconic landmarks.

A new audiovisual experience highlights the sights as you go, so you can play more of “what’s that?” with the kids.

Tickets from $29 online 🎟️

HOT Tips:
✅Book ahead online, as walk-up tickets cost around 20% more.
✅ Prams can’t go in the cabins, so use the pram parking at the gift shop.
✅ There are no toilets in the cabins and the ride doesn’t stop, so go before you board.

A family outing for four under $40? Yes please 🏰

Werribee Park Mansion is about a 35 to 40 minute drive from Melbourne CBD, and a family pass (2 adults, 2 children) is only $39.50.

Wander through a 60-room mansion at your own pace, with no tour group and no set start time. Let the kids ride the rocking horse in the children’s room, play at the puppet stage and mix and pretend-bake in the old kitchen.

Press the buttons in most rooms for a short audio clip about the room’s history, then head outside to run wild on the free gardens and Great Lawn.

Refuel at The Parlour Cafe (open Thursday to Sunday), where the kids’ menu has ice cream served all day!

Then finish at the Victoria State Rose Garden next door, with around 5,000 roses in bloom from October to April.

HOT Tips:
✅ Prams aren’t allowed inside, so pop baby or toddler in a carrier for the tour, then swap back to the pram in the gardens.
✅ Kids under 4 get in free. You don’t need to book for general entry, but it’s worth booking ahead for school holidays and weekends.
✅ Bring a picnic blanket, as there are no picnic tables or barbecues on the grounds.
✅ Budget 1 to 1.5 hours inside, or a full half-day with the gardens. Open daily 10am to 4pm, with last entry at 3.30pm.

Melbourne Museum after dark, Halloween style 🎃

Need a family friendly Halloween activity that goes beyond trick or treating?

Halloween at the Museum is back on Friday 30 October from 6pm to 9:30pm.

Follow the Trick or Treat Trail, try hands-on Spooky Science experiments and get up close to some of the museum’s creepiest, crawliest collections, with museum experts there to tell you all about them.

Then dance it out on the Halloween Dance Floor and join the Costume Parade for a chance to win prizes!

Book ahead online, as this one tends to sell out.

✅ Child tickets (16 and under) are $25 and adult tickets are $39. Member, concession and student prices are available too.
✅ Costumes are encouraged but not compulsory.

Pick your own cherries, just an hour from Melbourne CBD 🍒

CherryHill Orchards' Coldstream orchard opens for cherry picking from November through to early January.

Pick your own straight from the tree and eat as many as you like while you go. Then head to the big open picnic area, where the kids can burn off energy at the kids play area while you relax on the lawns with a cherry-flavoured drink.

The cafe and farmgate shop are stocked with cherry treats and local produce, and there's cherry ice cream too.

It's about an hour from Melbourne, so worth carving out the whole day to relax.

A cafe that serves gelato all day? Yes please. 🍦

The Parlour at Werribee Park is one of the prettiest spots to feed the kids in Melbourne's west.

Tables sit under the old eaves or scattered across the lawns, so on a nice day the mansion becomes your view, whilst the kids tuck into grilled cheese or crumbed chicken strips.

Then it's gelato and sorbet all day, the part our kids look forward to most, before they run wild on the lawns!

Next door is the free Victoria State Rose Garden, or add on a mansion tour to turn it into a full day out.

Wake up to grazing horses and let the kids collect eggs before breakfast. 🐴

This is Wilindi Estate is a cottage stay less than an hour from Melbourne, set on a working animal rescue property.

You get your own self-contained cottage, and a guided hour-long session meeting the rescue horses, pigs and goats with owner Miriam, who's spent years working with kids and animals!

No petting zoo vibes, everything is guided and done on the animals' terms.

Kids can groom a horse, say hello to the pigs and goats, and collect eggs to keep. There's also a small playground, a games room with table tennis, and a pool perfect for the warmer months ahead!

Shadowfax Wines in Werribee is one of the easiest wineries near Melbourne to bring the kids to. 🍷

There's a proper printed kids menu (think linguine, tempura fish and chips, mini steak, pizza, ice cream with sprinkles).

Plus a huge lawn right beside the outdoor tables so they can run around, play hide and seek or kick a ball while you eat. You can see them the whole time from your seat whilst your enjoying your glass of wine!

It sits right next to Werribee Park and the Open Range Zoo too, so it's an easy one to build a bigger family day around.

Around 30 mins from Melbourne CBD.
