“Ghost Masseur” - A comic about a ghost trying to run a massage parlour 👻 💆‍♀️

I learnt during the process of making this comic that a male masseuse used to be called a masseur. This little guy would’ve first got stuck in purgatory long before “massage therapist” was a thing.

Process of how I made my trippy mushroom dude, but in reverse 🙃🍄☕️

Swipe to see the fish I drew while still woozy from anesthesia.

About 6 weeks ago I got open heart surgery to replace my aortic valve. Even though I’ve known my whole life I’d need surgery it was still a shock to learn my time had come.

The first 4 weeks of recovery were challenging but im now doing really well and have a lot more energy. I’ve been quite lucky to be able to rest properly and get lots of support. The new heart valves are working well.

I’m slowly but surely easing back into making art.

I’m fortunate I had access to the Ross procedure as a surgery option - it has great long term outcomes for young people like me. It’s a long and complex procedure even by heart surgery standards. Not many clinics offer it and only a handful of surgeons are proficient in it. A big shoutout to Dr Iyer and team, and St Vincent’s public hospital. I had an army looking after me. I’ve also had an excellent experience doing cardiac rehab at RPA. We have a great public health system, we should look after it and pay nurses better.

Hopefully I’ll have more art to share soon 🤠 taken in Sydney, Australia by @touchingdoodles

When I’m not making up weird little characters I like to do a lot of life drawing. It’s endlessly challenging trying to capture a live pose in a short amount of time. You never quite succeed, but you can get addictively close from time to time. It’s especially fun in a room filled with other artists.

Shoutout to @gladdydrawingclub for all the fun. taken in The Lord Gladstone by @touchingdoodles

Wait for it! All these mushrooms were created for Game of Shrooms. These are made with upcycled cardboard, sharpie markers, and a little copic marker and pencil for depth.

Cardboard cutouts are a fun blend of drawing and sculpture. With each character design I’m trying to triangulate the perfect mixture of goofy, cute and deranged.

I’m working on a comic about a puppet who can time travel. This painting is inspired by the puppet I created, it’s basically the monster the puppet would’ve been based on if the process had happened in reverse. This is, you could say, the puppet’s monster.

I haven’t done an acrylic painting in a long time. I learnt a lot about mixing purples - A vibrant, and juicy, and distinctively purple hue requires the use of reds and blues that skew towards purple. This means you want to combine a cool-leaning red with a warm-leaning blue. taken in Sydney, Australia by @touchingdoodles

A big mushroom-shaped thank you to everyone who joined me for Game of Shrooms at Sydney Park on Saturday 🍄

We had around 20 artists contribute over 80 pieces of original art for others to find and keep. Just look at how good the art was! There were paintings, tapestry, watercolours, sculptures, woodwork and cardboard illustrations. Thank you all for being so generous with your time and skills!

The highlights for me were getting to meet some new artists, spying on people hunting down mushrooms in the park, and lots of sunshine after weeks of rain.

A special shoutout to @attayumfactory aka @gameofshroomsofficial for starting all this.

Thanks @gladdydrawingclub for helping promote.
