Four days.

Four days until the first people arrive for a trip that, until very recently, existed mostly in conversations between the two of us.

We started Paikea because we wanted to share encounters like this; a mum and calf moving through the waters of Tonga.

But somewhere along the way, it became about much more than seeing a whale.

It’s the place. The people. The days on the water. The things you learn. The moments you weren’t expecting.

Our first Paikea expedition starts in four days.

That feels slightly surreal to write.

Still can't believe I actually got to experience this... 🥹🐳💖

I couldn't even tell you how many different whales we swam with over the four days we spent on the water 🛥💦, but I'll never forget all the different personalities we encountered. 💕

There were the shy but curious ones, who gave us repeat drive-bys from a distance 👉🏽👈🏽👀. The boisterous and cheeky ones, with absolutely no concept of personal space 🤸🏽‍♀️‼️. The gentle, graceful dancers who just wanted to spin and twirl 🩰✨️. We saw chill mums with their curious, playful yearlings👩‍👧🪁, and came across a group of eager males trying to impress a female 💋🐳🐳🐳🐳, who all made a hasty exit after we rudely crashed the party. 🙈

Some whales were solo 🐳 and some were in groups 🐳🐳🐳. Some came in for only a quick look 👀 before continuing on their way, while others stayed with us for over an hour, not wanting to leave. 💖✨️

So many incredible encounters 🐳🤿 and four days I'll never forget 🥹💖💖💖.

Thank you @freedivingcentral and @staytonga for helping make a dream come true. 🤿🌴🐳💖
