Do you live in a flood zone?

Manasquan officials have issued a voluntary evacuation notice for residents in low-lying, flood-prone areas as a slow-moving nor’easter approaches the Jersey Shore.

The notice primarily covers the borough’s Tier 1 area, including parts of the beachfront and neighborhoods near Glimmer Glass and Watsons Creek.

Officials are especially urging elderly residents, people with special needs and those living in non-elevated homes to consider leaving.

A smash-and-grab jewelry theft at Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack prompted a large police and SWAT response Tuesday after shoppers mistook the sound of shattered glass for gunshots.

Police said a suspect smashed a jewelry display case inside Bloomingdale’s, stole jewelry and fled the mall.

Multiple shoppers called 911 believing they had heard gunfire, leading Hackensack police, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, Regional SWAT and other local agencies to respond.

No injuries were reported. Bloomingdale’s was locked down for just under an hour while the rest of the mall remained open.

Police later said the mall had resumed normal operations and there was no ongoing threat to the public. The suspect remained at large as of 1 p.m., and the theft remains under investigation.

The @bergencountyanimalshelter staff gave the nearly 2-year-old Husky a special sendoff over the weekend as she left with her new family.

Appa had briefly been adopted in May 2025 but was returned just a week later. Shelter staff said she needed an experienced owner, preferably someone familiar with Huskies, describing her as athletic, affectionate and eager to please.

For months, Appa greeted visitors from her enclosure, always ready for attention and affection.

Have you heard?

A large crane toppled into two homes on Sunnyhill Terrace in River Vale late Thursday morning while crews were removing a tree, according to reports from the scene.

The crane crashed through the roof of one home and extended into a neighboring property. No injuries were reported, and a cat was safely rescued.

People familiar with the incident said one of the crane’s legs sank into an underground concrete seepage tank, causing the vehicle to overturn. The truck carrying the crane was left on its side as emergency crews responded.

One homeowner said the tree removal company offered to cover repairs.

Montclair runners and walkers are invited to close out the summer with @soleannarunclub “One Last Summer Sunset Run” on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The community event begins at 5 p.m. at @chashnichaico, 349 Bloomfield Ave., and will feature a 5K run and walk in partnership with @adidasrunning. Participants of all paces are welcome.

A recent report named 10 of New Jersey’s most hospitable towns, including Spring Lake as number 5!

The list highlights destinations known for welcoming downtowns, community events, locally owned businesses and the kind of small-town atmosphere that makes visitors feel at home.

The other Shore towns made the list: @visitoceangrove and @redbank_nj.

Spring Lake was recognized for its peaceful, arcade-free boardwalk, Divine Park and charming Third Avenue.
