Noumea, New Caledonia, beautiful French territory island. We wouldn’t mind going back there to visit. Rode the hoop on hop off bus to the beach. I just had to try the water. It was great. We loved the aquarium and the huge variety of fish. by @tpandelin

Lautoka, Fiji. We ventured out on our own and hired a taxi to take us to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, a beautiful botanical garden started by Raymond Burr. They have over 70,000 species of orchids and some were in bloom. It was so beautiful walking along this mountain side. by @tpandelin

Port Vila, Vanuatu. Great trip to learn how chocolate is made. They harvest cocoa beans from all of the islands of Vanuatu and each islands beans have unique flavors. There were plenty of samples for us to try. We visited a village to learn of their customs and witness fire/coals walking. Our visit to this island was a stop at a blue lagoon for swimming. by @tpandelin

Luganville, Vanuatu, the island of Santo. We booked horseback rides Megan at Santo Horse Adventures before the cruise. She collected us and another couple at the port and drove us to her ‘ranch’. She has about 34 horses many which have been rescued from the local bushmen. On the drive and the ride she taught of her island and their life there. Our ride took us up to a lookout before we went riding through the mangroves and on the beach. I ride Miss Missy and Mark was on Arizona. It as ‘best ride ever’. At the conclusion of the ride we were treated to cold coconut water straight from the coconut. It was a delightful adventure. by @tpandelin

Alotau, Papua New Guinea. Our excursion took us to one of the many villages on this island. In our hour long drive we passed by many of the primary and elementary schools that our tour guide was very proud of and the many small bridges. Each village has a chief. Along the we way we passed by a large gathering of people. When someone dies, the body is placed in the morgue until the family collects enough money for the funeral service. In the village we learned about how they cook, food preparation, dance, fish, etc. we were even treated to a book ride. Mark bought candy to share with some of the children. Chewing betel nut with mustard bean and lime turns their mouths red. They say it gives them energy to think and to work. Even the kids do it. by @tpandelin

Feb 26 Darwin Australia we had a lovely ship’s tour of the highlights of Darwin. Kathy, our guide was delightful and full of interesting information. Places visited were the museum where we met Sweetheat, the city jail(no longer in use), and learned of how WW2 was fought from Darwin and its impact. by @tpandelin

Port Moresby Papua New Guinea. For security reasons because of high incidence of crime we were shuttled to the mall with instructions not to leave. We met another couple and together we booked a taxi for a round trip to the Botanical Park and wait for us. It was a very lovely peaceful park. I was disappointed that there were no orchids in bloom but we did see the tree kangaroo (with the long tail) and birds. As we were leaving we discovered that they had cassowaries. We found a great shirt for dad and fabric for me at the mall. by @tpandelin

Kupang City, West Timor Indonesia. It was hot humid this day as we visited 3 locations on a bus with little to no AC. First stop was to learn about the musical instrument unique to this island. Next we went to the LasianaBeach Area to learn how palm sugar was made, enjoy a dance presentation and a snack. Before returning to the ship we were taken to just a few shops for shopping. by @tpandelin

Incredible visit to Komodo National Park on Komodo Island, Indonesia. Besides the dragons, there is village of about 2000 people who live on the island. The park rangers feed the dragons 3 times a day to reduce their aggressiveness. We loved our trek through the park in search of the dragons. by @tpandelin
