Real life is messy. Families are complicated. People make mistakes and hurt one another. Sometimes we respond badly to things that hurt us deeply - and sometimes we’re judged for things we never actually did.

If you've ever been misunderstood, misjudged, overlooked or found yourself trying to navigate a complicated season you never expected, you may find a friend in Rachel like I did. You know Rachel, the original one from Genesis, the wife of Jacob, the sister of Leah, the daughter of Laban, the mother of Joseph and Benjamin?

I’d love you to join me on this journey as we learn what it means to live as God's beloved.

If that’s you, you can join my monthly letters. I’ll send you the first chapter of Rachel, Beloved of Israel and my 7 day devotional designed to sit alongside. You’ll also be among the first to hear when the book is published and to receive an invitation to join my launch team. You know where the link will be right? by @traceythorp

And thankfully I didn’t because then I would have missed everything God was changing inside me. So while my physical ability faded, my spirit grew, and that was far greater exercise than anything I could do by myself.

If New Year’s resolutions are failing you, you might like to ask God what He wants for you next year. His answer will most certainly surprise you by year’s end and be far greater than anything you could ever resolve to do yourself šŸ¤šŸ©µ by @traceythorp

When your body’s breaking but you still have stories to tell. Coping strategies that have brought light into darkness - from how to manage the physical and mental struggles that come with chronic illness, to the Scripture that brings peace in crisis.

Stuck in bed grieving yet another sickness that flared my already severe POTS, I needed something to ground me to this life - Jesus’ hand in the storm if you like. God reminded me through my health psychologist (yes, I needed help coping with a life that had drastically changed) not only did I have my people, those who have stood by me, cared for me, visited me, loved me - I still had writing. There were stories that needed to be told. Stories that didn’t judge a character’s motives. And so I wrote, and wrote - and finished a novel about Jacob and Rachel and their blended family.

If you’ve ever felt judged, left behind, anxious, isolated, if you’ve had a dream and lost it, if you’ve ever lived in survival mode, this page is for you - my heartfelt hope is that you’ll discover something amongst it all that helps you cope too.

I’m so sorry I judged you, Rachel. I listened to what others said about you. I read novels about you that based their narrative around the Jewish Midrash commentary and believed it. But of course the rabbis of old couldn’t see you were a type of the Bride of Christ. How could they when they rejected Jesus? Of course it was impossible for them to see God was revealing His bride through you - your suffering, your loss, your turning aside from your old life, your death to self - it was everything His bride would be asked to do. And if they didn’t believe, how could they understand that you were pointing the way to a love that is chosen, not earned?

* Spoiler alert - only read this to check your answers if you want to guess the symbolism in the story. How many did you get right? Was there anything I missed?
.
Hope you enjoyed this little take about the Dead Sea, lack of mud and the meaning of Yom Kippur.
:
.
.
THE ANSWERS:
1. A story about mud from the Dead Sea = sin and flesh.
2. Nothing can live in the Dead Sea as opposed to the Jordan River which symbolises living water = sin results in death while living water (Jesus) results in life.
3. We had to buy the mud = we have to pay a price for our sin because God is perfect love and perfect justice. The wages of sin is death.
4. Slapping the mud on each other = every time we sin, someone else is impacted.
5. At first the mud felt good but then it began to burn our skin = sin feels good for a time but never satisfies.
6. The clean water to remove the mud was a free gift = Jesus paid the price for our sin by His death on the cross and left us the Holy Spirit to transform our character into His likeness.

I’m still trying to work out how this got published!

If you post about being chronically ill, especially POTS, according to Poppy Coburn, journalist for the @telegraph you’re part of a lifestyle trend that makes illness ā€œfundamentalā€ to your life, or part of your ā€œidentityā€, just as, Poppy says, one might label themselves ā€œtransgenderā€, but all you’re really doing is promoting ā€œeconomic inactivityā€.

Apparently, because many doctors have never heard of POTS, and there are (as yet!) no blood markers to confirm the syndrome, plus many sufferers struggle to get anyone to take them seriously, Poppy says they’re ā€œpretendingā€.

According to the 5 September article, ā€œA chronically ā€œsickā€ person does what a chronically sick person is supposed to do: they withdraw from regular life, struggle with previously simple tasks, receive support and condolences, and rarely, if ever, get better.ā€

Unfortunately, it’s when someone without a chronic illness tells someone with a chronic illness how we’re ā€œsupposedā€ to behave, that we feel decidedly unsupported and lacking in condolence.

What do you think? Should I be withdrawing from regular life?

Huge thanks to @maeganm who helped me feel like a normal person for 40 minutes, and shot spectacular images that will help me look good for a lifetime, and @jessicurwell who came to help me. Now that’s support and condolence.

Here’s the article (let me know if you want the link) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/09/05/disability-became-cool/ by @traceythorp

2,500 years ago, Joshua placed 12 stones in the River Jordan, then took 12 stones out of the river, and put them in circle at Gilgal, to remember that God had rolled away the reproach of Egypt from the Israelites.

With a Bible Study group named after Gilgal, it would be rude not to mark the historic occasion. So while we were in Egypt, we took stones from the top of Mt Sinai to leave in the Jordan River, on the Feast of Trumpets.

In a traditional Feast of Trumpets celebration, stones are cast into a body of living water as a symbol of casting away sin.

And just like Joshua, we were going to take a stones out of the Jordan and lay them in at circle at Gilgal.

BUT there were apparently no stones at the bottom of the Jordan River AND nobody knew where ancient Gilgal was.

So off we went dressed in our white baptism robes, into the River Jordan. As soon as our feet hit the water, hundreds of tiny fish began sucking and nibbling on our feet. What better representation of casting away our flesh?! Not only that, the way to know if you’re in a body of living water, is if there are fish swimming it!

But there’s more, the bottom of the river was made up of tiny stones, not big bolders or flat river stones, but small stones, the exact size of those we were about to cast in the water.

So we died to self as we went under the water and dropped our stone. Then we fumbled about a bit under water to grab a fresh stone, and rose with a shout of joy that God had rolled away our reproach.

Now the final issue was Gilgal. Geographically, Gilgal was the first place the Israelites camped when they crossed the Jordan. It had to have been a large, flat area of land to camp 2 million people, and couldn’t be very far from Jericho, because the Israelites walked there and back again for 7 days before the walls fell. So we found an area of land that appeared to fit, and laid our stones in a circle by a tree, so if we ever went back, we’d search for our stones, and remember the day our Feast of Trumpets was one of our greatest memories.

Do you celebrate the Feast of Trumpets? I’d love to hear your story! by @traceythorp

NOT to put a dampener on things, BUT we have to talk about this šŸ¤

Yes faith is a shield to extinguish the fiery darts of the enemy but that in itself indicates he’s not afraid of it | Ephesians 6:16.

The truth? The enemy does NOT fear us - he fears God. That’s it. When we make it all about what WE have, we underestimate the enemy and our pride creates a barrier between us and God.

James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder!
