Day 2 - Evening!!

Time to head back up Sekonyer Kanan River on our houseboat in the dark! Very, very special!

We stopped at a local river village ‘supermarket’ for the next morning’s breakfast eggs and also got to see fireflies along the river bank and one that joined us on the boat!

Final Stop - Camp Leakey!

Because we spent so much time watching the female orangutan watching us on the river bank we were 1/2 hr late to the feeding station. Not to worry as no orangutans came for fruit at the station. Our guide explained that while there is plenty of fruit in the trees at this time of year the orangutans have no need to visit the feeding stations. These stations can only be observed for a couple of hours every day and we were so lucky to have already encountered so many orangutans.

Most people left but we hung around and 5 minutes before we would have been due to head back to the boat a mummy orangutan and her young daughter showed up. I’m so glad we waited to catch our final glimpse of these majestic creatures.

Day 2 - Afternoon!

On our way to Camp Leakey and the final stop and last chance to see orangutans we had the most magical experience of all. A female orangutan was hanging around by the river bank as we came past and hung around, watching us as much as we were watching her. It was incredible and she was a beauty! ❤️🦧

There were loads of monkeys too and we were slightly alarmed by the fact that one jumped onto our boat and helped himself to a sachet of milk! 😳 (Definite Hunger Gsmes vibes! 🤣 IYKYK!) taken in Camp Leakey, Tanjung Puting National Park Central Kalimantan by @tracylovesdancing

Day 2 - morning!

Further up the river to Pondok Tangui where we encountered a young female who popped into the feeding station. She hung around for the 90 minutes we were there which was incredible!

A trek back through the beautiful (very warm) jungle and back to the boat for a tasty lunch while we continued on to our final stop, Camp Leakey. taken in Pondok Tanggui by @tracylovesdancing

Day 1 -evening and night!

A small river village community, proboscis monkeys playing in the trees by our boat, a night jungle walk with some incredible jungle birds, some insects & spiders, a snake and the biggest ants I’ve ever seen! Luckily no tarantulas!

Day 1!

4 hours up the river into the jungle, then a 45 minute walk inland and…

…First sighting!

Borneo adventure, day 1!

Since Gaby (@gabyandthebeast ) was a tiny tot her favourite animal has always been orangutans. 🦧❤️ Her dream has always been to see them in the wild so for her 30th birthday we made that happen!

It helps a lot that she lives in Malaysia. On Saturday we all flew to Jakarta and then at stupid early o’clock on Sunday morning we flew to Pangkalan Bun on Indonesian Borneo to start our adventure up the river in search of orangutans.

We joined our private ‘klotok’ (river houseboat) with Captain, 1st mate, cook and guide and began our journey into the rain forest up the river. taken in Pangkalan Bun, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia by @tracylovesdancing

A lovely but very hot, very humid, very steep walk through the jungle to a local waterfall today while @gabyandthebeast is still at school for her last few days of the year! All the smells (durian!!!!) sights and sounds are so reminiscent of our Brunei days…. 40 years ago! How is that possible? taken in Malaysia by @tracylovesdancing
